Principal’s Message

Term 3, Weeks 1 and 2

Welcome back to all our students and their families to a very busy Term 3. The calendar is certainly filling

up with events both within our own school and in the wider community. Activities that promote academia, health

and wellbeing and community involvement are all present on this term’s calendar.

Mrs Davis, Mrs Bell, Mrs MacKenzie and myself joined other staff members from our small schools net-

work on Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd July to engage in professional learning workshops. It was inspiring to listen

to Mr Bruce Sullivan speak on how we should confront each day, as being the best version of ourselves, that we

can be. He likened it to thinking of everyday as a job interview— be positive, be kind and wear your ‘happy pants’.

He spoke to us of his dream to get a few kind thoughts for his daughter’s 18th birthday and was surprised when

over 15,000 cards arrived in his mailbox. If this can be done for a stranger, imagine the impact we can make on

the people around us everyday by simply being kind and helpful.

Last week, students started their 2018 journey in the Premiers Sporting Challenge. Students are en-

thusiastically recording the amount of physical activity they undertake throughout the course of a day. Next

week, we start Fresh for kids. An initiative to promote healthy eating in our kids. For every serving size of fruit

consumed, students will receive a sticker that can be traded for collectable items. This program will run until the

end of term and will link nicely with our ‘Crunch and Sip’ program we started at the beginning of the year.

We have also registered to participate in the MS read-a-thon this term. More details will be sent home

next week, but please start recording the books read at home and asking people if they would be interested in

sponsoring you for this great cause.

Next week we have school photos on Monday 6th August. Don’t forget to bring in your envelopes so we

know what packages you would like. Full winter uniform is to be worn with the students regular smiles. I can’t wait

to see how they turn out this year!

On Tuesday, we look forward to liaising with our local CWA and participating in this years celebration of Po-

land. This cultural experience, through an informative presentation and a meal lovingly cooked by the local CWA, is

an anticipated event on the Blackville Public School Calendar and has been for many years now.

Kookoo Kookaburra

On Thursday 26th July students travelled in to the

Quirindi Royal Theatre to watch a performance called KooKoo

Kookaburra. It highlighted the importance of friendship and of

being kind to one another. Poor Kookoo thought he was funny

when he made fun of friends, but he soon learnt that to keep

those friendships alive, he had to treat his friends with respect.

Lennie amazed us with his skill on the didgeridoo and his very cool dance moves.

Putt Putt Afternoon with our Local Police Oficers

After Kookoo Kookaburra, students travelled to the Quirindi Golf Club for a few games of putt putt. Senior

Constable Adam Davis and Senior Constable Matt Rheinberger joined in and helped students to manipulate the

sometimes tricky course. Then they spoke to us about the differing parts of their job and the equipment that

makes up their uniform.

Students thoroughly

enjoyed the day and we

thank Adam Davis for

organising the day.

Special Guest

During the first week of Term, Willson and Teejay brought in Pig, their new

family member. Pig was very cute as he interacted with everyone and got to know the

sights and sounds of our school. We look forward to watching him grow and can’t wait

to see him again in a few months time.

Spelling Bee

Don’t forget our Small Schools Spelling Bee is coming up soon (Tuesday 14th August) . If all families could

prepare morning tea and some fruit, that would be greatly appreciated. Any community cooking donations would

also be greatly appreciated.

QHS Production of Annie—the Musical

Congratulations to the students and staff of Quirindi High School who were

involved in the production of Annie this year. Students from Blackville Public School,

as well as students from the local area were invited to the matinee performance of

Annie in Week two and enjoyed all aspects of the show. We thank Mrs Lauren

Maybury for accommodating all of our students and the opportunity to see a live theatre production on a local lev-

el, including lights and music. Students enjoyed watching a local Blackville person perform as one of the main char-

acters. It was noted that a few of our students said they would love to be involved in it when they get to High

School. We look forward to watching them perform in a few years time!

Small Schools Athletics Carnival

This year, the decision was made to run our Small Schools Athletics carnival at Golland fields in Quirindi.

Students tried hard all day and participated in all events with sportsmanship and persistence. They looked

fantastic in their marching and tried their hearts out against the bigger schools in the ball games activities.

Congratulations to Steve, Darcy, Charlie, Angel, Willson and Chelsea, who all progressed to the next stage and will

participate at the Zone Athletics day on Thursday 9th August. We wish you all the very best.

Value Of the Week

Week 1: Be respectful to others– speak in a voice that is courteous, use appropriate body

language, think about your answers carefully.

Week 2: Be positive to others– say something nice, give a compliment.

Week 1: Teejay: enthusiastically participating in Kookoo Kookaburra.

Darcy: working hard across all areas.

School Leader Award: Lani-May: respecting other students in the playground

Week 2: None given due to sports carnival

Please mark this on your calendar and spread the word to any

farmer you know! This is an afternoon all for them.

On Friday 7th September, ABC North West have offered to

run a community event called ‘Busting the Drought’ at the

Blackville community hall, starting at 4pm. A free barbeque,

performances from our very own BPS students and a play

starring the staff of ABC Northwest has been organised for

the farmers and their families in the hope they can spend

some time enjoying the Blackville Community spirit. We want

them all to know that we are thinking of them and we support

them! Hopefully by then, we will have had some much needed

rain—fingers crossed.
