Principal’s Message

Term 3, Weeks 5 and 6

As winter draws to an end and the warmer weather begins, please be aware that snakes are already about. I

have already seen two myself in the last few weeks along Dimby Lane and they can be quite aggressive as they come

out of hibernation. On a similar note, we have also had two reports of magpies swooping in our school grounds.

Unfortunately it is the season that magpies start to become quite territorial, so please ensure you are looking up as

well as down.

Although I haven't had the chance to speak to all those students who took part in this weeks Small Schools

Camp at Lake Keepit, they certainly looked like they had an amazing time. Thank you to Mrs Davis who gave up her

week to supervise those students and ensured everyone was safe and happy. We really are exceptionally lucky to

have such devoted staff in our school.

We are now also on the final countdown to our very first Colour Run. This is the Blackville P and C’s major

fundraiser for Term three, so please support them in raising some money for our school. So far this year the P and C

have donated approximately $1500 for a chilled water fountain, $2000 towards our Coffs Harbour excursion and

$700 towards the Lake Keepit excursion. Donations like these require community support, so come on everyone—

what are you waiting for? What better way to support our P and C, our school, get fit and have fun all in one day?

QHS Taster Day

On Tuesday 20th August, our Year 5 student Willson, journeyed into Quirindi High School to

receive a sample of what secondary education can look like at Quirindi High School. Willson spent the day

working amongst a large number of other Year 5 students from around our district in the areas of LOTE,

HSIE, metalwork, agriculture and computers. By all accounts, he had a wonderful day meeting new friends

and beginning the transition process. Thanks to Mrs Davis for supervising students from Spring Ridge,

Walhallow and Blackville on the day and to the staff at QHS for supporting our students in this way.

Ready Set Go!

We are very excited to welcome Thomas to our school as he takes part in our Kinder transition program, Ready Set Go! The program runs for any child who will be commencing Kindergarten in 2020. The program provides children with the routines, experiences and skills that will allow them to transition into Kindergarten with confidence. Students are immersed in school activities such as literacy, numeracy, physical education and the creative arts. If you know of any other children who are going to start Kindergarten next year, please ask them to contact the school on 02 67474024 for more details. Thomas has certainly made a big impression on our kids, who enjoy showing him what ‘big school’ is all about.

Genius Hour

We thank Krystal who was our Genius in Week 5, teaching students the

properties of paint and showing them how to mix paints in order to create a

unique marble like pattern. The final masterpieces look amazing and showcase

what can be done when a parent who has a passion in the arts supports our

students. Students are very excited to see what the final step of coating does to

their canvas before being able to take them home next week. We look forward

to seeing what Jess has in store for us in two weeks time.

Year 2 run the school

For those who may have passed our school this week, you may have wondered why it seemed so quite and empty. Our Year

2 students were the sole leaders of our school during Week 6, with all of our Primary students taking part in the 2019 Small Schools

Camp at Lake Keepit. I personally would like to say congratulations to our Year 2 students for demonstrating such leadership and

responsible behaviour this week. It is a credit to yourselves to be able to regulate your learning and to get on with the job. I have

had several comments about the progress and dedication you all demonstrated. Well done!

Our Community Members are on Fire!

A very special thanks to Phil, Georgina, Jeff, Tony and James for giving up their

weekend to burn our wood pile in the far end of our school. With summer fast

approaching and a few rather significant events happening in the next few weeks, we

are very grateful for your time and expertise in getting this done

Lake Keepit Camp

Mrs Davis and 7 students from our Primary class, excitedly travelled to Lake Keepit this week to take part in the annual Small

Schools Camp. After last years consensus that 3 days was not long enough, students elected to stay for the full week of activities,

consolidating friendship, team work and leadership. I’m not sure who found the week more enjoyable, the students or Mrs Davis,

but it is wonderful to know that our students receive the very best opportunities within a few hours drive of Blackville. Thanks to

Mrs Davis, Rose and Krystal on assisting our children to get to and from the camp and a very special congratulations to our children

who regularly received comments on their exceptional behaviour. Well done!

School Payments

Thanks to everyone who has continued to make payments towards their school fees. The majority of cooking fees are now

up to date, so cooking will resume in Week 8. Don’t forget music fees will also need to be paid before Mr Garrett returns at the

start of Term 4.

SAS Staff Appreciation week

During Week 6, schools around NSW took time to reflect on the amazing contribution our SAS Staff do for not only our

schools, but our students and staff. I would like to personally thank Mrs MacKenzie, Mrs Bell, Mrs Redgrove, Ms Dalton and Mr

Maxwell for their dedication to our school. Our schools certainly run much smoother thanks to people like you.

Thanks to the CWA

This week we were very lucky to receive some clothes for our students that were very kindly donated as part of the Drought

Assistance Scheme. We still have some clothes available that would suit a baby girl. If you are interested in these, please feel free

to call into the school.

Genius hour

Genius hour has restarted and will see parents teaching our students about various interests they have. Please mark these

dates in your calendar if you haven’t already
