Blackwell Publishing Mission Statement
Partnerships in learning, research and professional practice
Our mission is to provide an expert publishing service to other experts - authors, editors, librarians, researchers, teachers and their students, societies and professionals - enabling them to do their jobs better.
We aim continuously to improve the quality and effectiveness of our products and services.
Just as we support the advance of knowledge and learning, we are constantly developing our own professional skills too.
We strive to align our goals and values with those of our clients and customers. In partnership with them we are making an important contribution to society.

Improving the quality of research time
5 reasons why Blackwell Publishing journals are different
1. We are the world’s leading publisher on behalf of academic and professional societies.
– What this means: our society journals represent excellent quality and value.
2. The average prices of our journals are low.
– What this means: the cost per use of our journals is low.
3. We are committed to growing the intellectual strength of our journals and to publishing the best research.
– What this means: our list is continuously growing in size and quality.
4. Our list is both broad – covering a wide range of disciplines – and deep - we publish several of the top titles in many core subject areas.
– What this means: our journals can meet the research needs of most institutions.
5. Our online developments and licensing terms ensure that libraries get the most use from their purchase.
– What this means: the value library customers get from their purchase is high.

The Social Science and Humanities
• Over 300 journals • 28 subjects: from Aristotle to African Politics, from Linguistics to
Labour Relations, from Finance to Family Therapy
• Over 200 societies: many of the societies we publish for are ‘household names’ in the academic world. Among them the American Finance Association, The Royal Economic Society, the Royal Anthropological Society. (Full list included at end)
• Top quality articles by top quality academics: these are journals at the very forefront of their field, written by leading academics.
This is reflected in another year of excellent performance in the ISI rankings. • 68 new journals since 2000: a total of 68 new journals have
joined Blackwell in the past 4 years. In that time we have lost only 7 which have ceased publishing either by mutual agreement or through a sale. In 2004 we added 17 to the list and we have 14 new titles already signed for ’05 – with more still to be confirmed.
