What is a Jeremy?
Jeremy is our PBL mascot, he is a turtle you’ll see around the school and a toy version of him is given out each Friday
to a student who has won the school PBL award. This student looks after Jeremy, at school, for the following week.
This Friday we will have our first Jeremy (Gotcha card) draw. Students have been earning blue Jeremy cards in Week
3 & 4 for
demonstrating the Blakebrook PS expectations of Learn, Respect and Safety. The drawn student will receive a reward for their effort.
This week a new collection began, and a new fortnightly draw will occur in week 10. All names will be kept, going in the end of term
mega draw in Week 11.
PRINCIPAL NEWS
Northern Rivers PSSA Soccer trials
Nine of our students participated in the Northern Rivers Zone PSSA soccer trials last Friday at the Southern Cross Football Centre. They were seeking selection in the boys and girls Northern Rivers teams to travel to Grafton for the North Coast selection trials. They competed against the best soccer players from 66 other schools. Competition was fierce but our students tried their hardest. Students were Drew, Willow W, Hayden, Austen, Baylie, Amber B, Georgia, Maddie and Ashlee. Congratulations to Drew, Amber B and Maddie on their selection in the Northern Rivers PSSA teams.
Terania District Soccer and Softball Trials
Our small schools district combine students to compete in the state-wide Knockout competitions in soccer and softball. Schools involved are Blakebrook, Caniaba, Larnook, Jiggi, Goolmangar, Coffee Camp and Nimbin. The trials for these were held at our school this afternoon. Students in years 3-6 were welcome to try out for these teams. I am awaiting to hear which of our students were successfully selected in these teams.
Y6 TRSC Enrichment Classes EOI
Enrichment Class Application forms for Y7 2020 have been sent home this week. Could Parents and Carers please complete and return to school by Friday 29th of March 2019.
Positive Behaviour for Learning, commonly known as PBL
Our school has three main values, which underpin all of our rules and expectations for staff, students and community.
Respect
Safe
Learn
Our mascot for PBL is Jeremy. Jeremy is a turtle who has links to our local waterways and is proudly displayed in the school logo. Jeremy is the name the students selected in 2018 to be our PBL mascot. We encourage you to talk to your child about how PBL works within our school.
Year 7 2020
Our year 6 students travelled to Richmond River High Campus for an orientation day on Tuesday this week. They sampled many differ-ent types of lessons and had a tour of the site. Our students were well behaved and thoroughly enjoyed the day. This day formed part of their overall transition to high school for next year. Thank you to the parents for coordinating transport.
Year 6 Interrelate
The Personal Development Program for year 6 students will be held next Tuesday 2nd April. This will be presented by staff from Interre-late. Year 6 students from other local small schools will join our students in these activities. A reminder that the cost has been substan-tially subsidised by the school. Notes and money should have been returned to school.
Have a great week and an enjoyable term, Allan Duroux
KINDERGARTEN NORTHERN STAR PHOTO 2019 Garden Club News—March
Since the rain some days ago everything in the garden
has responded beautifully, the tomatoes, cucumbers
and beans just can’t seem to grow fast enough.
The cauliflower, spinach and lettuce are all establishing
well.
We have moved one of the small beds and planted
some strawberries in it. The other small bed we have
planted a sweet potato vine to provide cuttings for
spring planting.
The dwarf beans are ready for harvesting this week, the
children really enjoy eating the beans raw straight from
the bush.
Finally I have to comment on the citrus trees, since we
have been spraying every two weeks with white oil
there has been little leaf miner infestation and they are
looking remarkable. We can only hope that flowering in
the spring will match the health of the trees.

4-6 Class Activity 4-6 Class were set the task to come up with 2 survey ques-tions to ask students and staff at BPS. They had to collect the data and then collate the results. Here is what we found out about Blakebrook….. SURVEY RESULTS At Blakebrook Public School there are more boys than girls and 80% can roll their tongue. The most popular day of celebration is Christmas and 75% of students can click their fingers. Almost half of our students ordered their lunch and mango is the most popular fruit to eat. The most favourite instrument is drums, and the most popular colour was yellow. There are 13 people at Blakebrook who are left handed and 22 students could not wink with both eyes. The most popular Princess is Elsa and the most popular Super Hero is Wonder Woman.
Head lice alert
Once again these little critters are doing the rounds of our
community. Please ensure you check and treat each child if
necessary. There are a multitude of products available
(shampoos) and remember that a once off treatment isn’t
enough. Combing the nits (louse eggs) out of the hair with a
very fine toothed comb is recommended daily for 14 days. A
2nd treatment shampoo is recommended 7 days after the
first treatment. everyone co-operating & following through
is the only way to break the cycle.
