PRINCIPAL NEWS It’s certainly been a busy time for our school recently. Please ensure you keep an eye on the Bulletin, School Stream updates and emails to keep up to date with notes and any payments. Touch Football Our Year 6 students, under the guidance of Mrs Perren and Lochie, attended at gala day in Goonellabah on Tuesday. They played 5 games and came away with 4 wins. The most pleasing part of this initiative is that some of our less sporty students, had a go and really enjoyed themselves. Well done kids and thank you to the parents for transporting the kids. Small Schools Soccer Knockout Competition Our Blakebrook soccer team will play the next round of the state wide knockout competition this Friday against Rous PS. If the students are successful, they qualify to compete at the semi-finals of the competition during week 10 in Sydney. Best of luck kids. Team members: Drew, Ryan, Georgia, Austen, Maddie, Wendell, Amber, Baylie, Willow, Ruben, Hayden, Jake, Django and Ashlee. P&C Meeting The next P&C meeting will be held this coming Monday the 9th September. It would be great to see as many families as possible at this meeting. It commences at 5:45pm in the school library. Children are welcome and can read or play quiet games during the meeting. I offer a huge thankyou to our P&C and Rotary volunteers for coordinating the recent Zone Athletics carnival. This was a massive challenge and you did a great job. Well done and thank you. Education Awards Last Thursday four members of our school community received Education Awards from the Department of Education. These were presented by Mr Frank Potter who is an Executive Director of the Department. Congratulations to our school Captains Georgia and Wendell for their student award and to John and Marion, our wonderful grandparent gardening volunteers, for their community award. Well done, we are very proud of you all. North Coast Regional Athletics Next Friday Amber B and Daniel will represent our school at the North Coast Regional Athletics Championships to be held in South Lismore. Here they will compete against the best athletes from 210 other schools from Taree in the south to Tweed Heads in the north. This is a massive achievement and we are very proud of your efforts. We wish you good luck next week as you try to qualify for the state championships next term. Performing Arts Festival Lots of information has been sent home about the musical and Performing Arts Festival. Our school has been involved in some rehearsals this week. Please note only 9 selected students will actually perform at the Workers Club this week. We will also have some students performing as part of the Small Schools Choir with over 150 students singing – amazing! Today all of our students travelled by bus to watch 17 performances at the Performing Arts Festival Matinee. This included watching our students on stage. Well done to all the students on their behaviour and enthusiastic appreciation of the performances. Our whole school musical, is actually next term. Pet Education Our K-3 students had a visit from the Pet Education program on Wednesday. The students listened to the responsibility and importance of looking after pets. Jackie and her beautiful corgi, Ghost presented a very informative talk which the students really enjoyed. Lismore Half-Day Gazetted Public Holiday Thursday 19th September is a gazetted half-day public holiday from 12pm. A note has gone home today (bright orange paper) asking for a response on picking up students at the earlier time of no later than 11:50am. Deadline for note is 12/9/19. 2020 Kindergarten Enrolments We are currently taking enrolments for 2020 Kindergarten. If you have a child who is coming to Blakebrook next year, please contact Wendy to arrange an interview with the Principal and to collect enrolment forms and other information. If you know of a family with a child ready for ‘Big’ school in the local community, encourage them to contact the school for an appointment to discuss enrolment or to have a look at our wonderful school. Have a great week - Allan Duroux Touch Footy Gala Day On Tuesday Lochie and I travelled with all of Year 6 to Hepburn Park for 5 games of Touch Football. It was Blakebrook's best performance so far in playing in the annual Gala Day. Year 6 played a mixed team in the Senior Division and won 4 out of 5 games. Everyone enjoyed the day and improved their skill level and confidence throughout the day. Thank you to the parents/grandparents for helping with transport and cheering for our team on the day.

Thanks to Lochie for refereeing our games. Well done Year 6 - absolute legends!!
