School District Demographics System (SDDS) Mobilences.ed.gov/surveys/sdds/ed/mobile The Department of Education’s National Center for Education Statistics turned to Blue
Raster to enhance the content and accessibility of their School District Demographics
System (SDDS) by deploying it to mobile devices. Using ArcGIS Server 10.1 and
JavaScript API 3.0, our team developed this HTML5 application to run in a tablet browser
(Apple iPad Safari or Android browsers), giving users instant access to education
statistics at the state and school-district level. This mobile tool allows users to create
custom maps by selecting from a menu of options, including U.S. Census demographic
statistics and math and reading assessments (NAEP).
Smithsonian Wild MobileWildlife lovers can use the new Smithsonian Wild mobile application to catch rare
glimpses of more than 250 species in their natural habitats. Created by Blue Raster,
Smithsonian Wild mobile delivers the capabilities of the web-based application to
mobile device users. Our team built Smithsonian Wild mobile using ArcGIS Online and
Adobe Flex and published it via FlashBuilder to iOS (iPhone, iPad) and Android (phone/
tablets) with a single code base. This mobile app enables users to view more than
206,000 wildlife images, housed on Flickr, which are captured by motion-activated
‘camera traps’ in locations across the globe.
Futures Institute partnered with Blue Raster to develop the Goals Express: HIV Impact
Tool, which was introduced at the AIDS 2012 international conference in Washington,
DC. This mobile app reveals how coverage for HIV intervention strategies affects
progress toward HIV prevention goals, including the reduction of new HIV infections.
Goals Express can be used to model the effects of antiretroviral therapy and other
interventions in four epidemic contexts. Based on an existing web application, this
interactive tool was developed with HTML5 and deployed using PhoneGap Build to
iOS and Android devices. It is available from the Apple App Store, Google Play, and the
Amazon Appstore.
