Year 5/6 Camp

Last week our Year 5/6 students travelled to Brisbane for their end of year camp. Students had an early start on Monday and arrived at school eager and full of excitement to start their adventure. The first major attractions on our trip were Super Bee Honey World and the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary where students were lucky enough to get up close and personal with various native animals that have been rescued from the wild. Next stop was at our accommodation and after setting up their rooms for the next four days a roast for dinner put a big smile on everyone’s faces. Day two and three were crammed pack with excitement and activities for students to participate in. We were lucky enough to jump onto some tours through Brisbane’s town hall and undertake police investigations at the Police Museum. One of the highlights from the trip was being able to explore and interact with all the different and interesting things on display at the Brisbane Museum. After so much non-stop action it was nice to relax at the planetarium and watch an amazing 360-degree view movie about the moon and stars. Some students and maybe a teacher could have been caught having a quick nap during the movie. Some of the other talking points from the camp were the ferry ride, ten-pin bowling, eating out at Sizzlers, Joy’s dancing during the talent quest and being let free on the playground at the Botanical Gardens. Day four, the day we were all looking forward to, you could see the excitement jumping out of every single student and Trish as we lined up to enter Sea World. After an action packed day some of the talking points were Dallas being eaten by a stingray, all of the boys screaming on the rollercoasters, the jet ski and dolphin shows and soaking each other on the pirate ships. As we started to head home and reflect on our amazing adventure the teachers and parents couldn’t help but to stop and think about how well our students behaved. We were extremely happy and proud of the way they conducted themselves and how much each student had grown by the end of the experience. A massive thanks must go out to our parents, Trish and Cresta and university student Mr Sherwood for coming along and helping run such a wonderful excursion. To sum our camp up, as the kids would say, #bestcampever! Mr Simpson Have a wonderful week!
