Friday13 th March - 4/5H library, 5/6G library Mr Burkitt’s Message Congratulations and thank you to our 2020 P&C executive: Thank you to our outgoing President, Keyarn Hammond. Good luck with the new bub arriving very soon. The 2020 P&C comprises President - Amanda Long, Vice President - Bec Young, Secretary - Oliver Gee and Treasurer - Katherine Stokes. Thank you also to the other parents who attended the Annual General Meeting on Monday evening. Now that all executive positions have been filled, the P&C and myself would like to encourage even more parents to attend Monday night meetings which occur monthly. In the remainder of this term there will be some weekend working bees which we hope to see many of you attending. Attendance procedures using the SMS text system seem to be working well. We now are sending out "Proud Moments" using this system. In terms of attendance, our goal is to have our students attending over 90% of the time and when your child is absent you need to notify the school with an appropriate reason. Research suggests that regular attendance greatly improves learning, ensuring that students gain valuable information, discussion and skill development which is the pathway to success. Regular hand washing is continually being encouraged at school. This has always been the case, however, more recently with current global concerns we are encouraging this procedure even more. Other supplies which have caused some members of the community to stock up are in excellent supply at Bonville PS. As adults we need to remain vigilant but not cause unwarranted panic in our children. Cross Country-athon sponsorship appears to be doing well, with many students informing us that they have raised over $30 already and some who have over a $100. This is wonderful and every little bit helps. Remember that for every $10 raised your child receives a raffle ticket which goes into the prize draw. We thank you for your support. Every dollar raised will go toward the purchasing of laptops for student use in the classroom. Please keep encouraging your children to read regularly at home. The better our children become at reading the greater their chances of their success in the future. It allows them to access deeper learn- ing and to follow their dreams providing them with greater opportunities in the future. Thank you for your continued support and promo- tion of Bonville Public School. Music News - Violin Teacher Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Jenna Cash. I have been offered the opportunity to teach music through violin to the wonderful students of Bonville Public School. I believe that music can be a wonderful experience for everyone and it would bring me great joy to pass the gift of playing an instrument onto younger children like my teachers have done, and are doing, for me.

At 18 years of age I have 10 years of playing and performing experience. Violin has opened many opportunities for me such as playing a number of times in the Sydney Opera House; the stand-out among many others. I am passionate about making such opportunities accessible to others through my teaching and involvement in their musical development.

Currently, I am a keen member of the Bellingen Youth Orchestra and the Bellingen based string ensemble ‘Sinfonia’. I have been fortunate to have consistent private violin tuition from wonderful teachers; Jessamine Frank, Zillah Hawley and Amber Davis who have been and all are a big part of my musical development.

I plan to continue my violin and music studies through to later years of my life, but for now I hope to gain experience in other aspects of playing music such as teaching. I will look forward to working under the guidance of Jacquie Gill who is an experienced violin and viola teacher from Bellingen and your wonderful music teacher Tanis Huxter! I will teach students through the Suzuki method which is used in almost all other primary schools of the Coffs Harbour region.

I look forward to meeting and working with everyone who may be interested!

I will be taking on new students beginning Term 2, please get in touch with Miss Tanis if you are interested. She can be contacted on 0414 989 755 and [email protected]

ANZAC DAY SAWTELL 2020

Once again ANZAC Day approaches quickly, and our Sub Branch invites all schools and students to participate in the ANZAC Day activities with the Sub Branch and Ex Service community of the Sawtell area.

As in previous years, the town march will commence promptly at 11.00am, after forming up in 2nd and 4th Avenues adjacent to the RSL Club from 10.45am.

Dawn Service commences at 6.00am, and the main Service will commence at about 11.25am after the march in First Ave.

Wreaths are customarily laid at the main Service which commences at about 11.25am.

Free drinks are available to all school students at the rear of the RSL Club after the main Service. These are supplied by Norco.

Harmony Week celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. At Bonville Public School we will be holding Harmony Week celebrations on Friday 20th March. Students and staff are invited to wear either traditional cultural dress or to wear something orange on this day. Any students, parents, carers or

community members who would like to share about their cultural heritage are invited to contribute with a small display or short presentation for the students of Bonville Public to enjoy on this day. Please see Mrs Geytenbeek if you would like to participate.
