German has a mathematical preci-sion for which they are famous. Before beginning this wildly intricate yet fascinat-ing language, make sure you are commit-ted 100%. Arguably, the trickiest part of German is the word “the”. This is learned however with diligent study of the reason-ing behind its forms, most likely about which you will end up dreaming nearly every minute of the day. It is quite humor-ous that something so simple in English is so troublesome in German. The best part of German, however, is the surprise you receive from Germans when you speak it! They are so utterly impressed because they know how hard their language is to learn. Additionally, German is a tough mental exercise. It forces you to think differently and there-fore see different points of view. The preci-sion of German teaches you also to realize how important details can be in communi-cation. If you say one syllable wrong or forget to say one word the whole sentence can be understood differently than intended. Finally, the ability of German to create words and meanings by putting parts of words together is amazing. They have the capability to create almost any sort of word to instill a precise meaning that cannot be argued.

Mindset: is the beginning of any large under-taking. There must be a destination and a path to achieve this destination. Humans are crea-tures of reward and achievement, what is the driving reward for learning this language?

Confidence: to become a language. Embrace its sounds and every facet of its being. Don’t worry about what people think…it doesn’t matter. When this happens you will begin to think, dream, and live the language.Discipline: Daily repetition or review. No

matter if it’s speaking, listening, reading, or writing, one must have a discipline to do it daily.

Passion: makes everything easier. If you can spark a passion into your learning you will not “learn” a language per se but rather slowly acquire and become what your passion is. You know it’s passion when learning the language is not work, but rather pleasure of doing some-thing incredibly necessary for the future. You ache every moment you are away from the words into another life.

Reward: the reward is the language itself, living inside of you forever once learned. Forevermore you will be able to impress and befriend anyone from that language with your willingness to begin in the first place. The feeling after a successful conversation is indescribable after the hours of work you have put in. One must have the audac-ity to begin the journey in order to benefit from its vast reward.

The limits of my language means the limits of my world. -Ludwig Wittgenstein

Deutsch German grounds itself in solid rock. Unyielding and exact rules frame this mathematically methodical language. Words are law and grammar plentiful. Spoken with confidence and powerful beauty, German controls its exquisitely stimulating sounds to emit a surprisingly delightful delivery. Do not be fooled however, for with its many rules come an ironic flexibility and phenomenal freedom to express illuminated ideas and feelings impossible for other languages to comprehend. The allure of this robustly allu-sive language challenges those who dare to initiate its loyally vast opportunity.

Unique Words:

The most useful conversational skill at your disposal are the words that can be used so easily everyday for fillers and extensions. These help immensely when one wishes to continue speaking but needs a break to think or form the next sentence. These 50 words are those that one might not learn in a class but are incredibly useful and used in everyday casual conversation. Most of these words will initiate utter surprise from the local with whom you are speaking. Please memorize and be able to use these at a moments notice.

I find that listening to

songs that are modern and clearly sung makes you

naturally become accustomed to the feel and sound of a

language. After listening to them multiple times, you will find that the combination of the words almost seems naturally right. Every time you listen to the song you will hear one or two more words

that you can understand, and soon you will be able to

understand the whole song.

Language is the doorway to a culture, a people, and a new way of life. -Blake Brigman Italian is a language of phenomenal beauty and lingual litany. The sound of song with every word that escapes. One gets carried away in the energy and passion of the phosphorescent experience and life. Through a constant heartbeat behind every word, perfectly united by the rhythm and dance upon the lips and the rebounding rolling of the tongue. One can almost feel the gentle heat of the golden sun and the quiet breeze that breathes life into earthy vines that crawl over the rolling countryside. Who would deny such an ephemeral, sincere experience?

Language Tip

Don’t be afraid, this isn’t grammar! It’s natural!

Like with anything, point of view is everything. If there is one obstacle in the way, it is your own mind. Think about this in order to conquer self-doubt. Try to picture a language in your mind. You can’t. It is limitless and ever changing. A wraith of sounds and subtle vibrations. Language at first glance seems impossible and neverending. Thus, in order to make it more approachable we must break a language into its basic elements in order to understand it as a whole. What is it? Well here it is, my basic four.

These represent the basic building blocks of your language. My system doesn’t make a big deal of these words! Within each category there lies many specifici-ties and explanations, but for now, just concentrate on what you can handle. Additionally, those complexities only account for 15-20% of the language anyway, so you won’t use them often. It can be learned without compli-cated grammar and charts, just take it slowly and your brain will work it out on its own. Whenever you are feeling inundated by information however, always come back to this page and realize that there are only 4 building blocks. It makes everything more simple.

Even just work on chunks of the language such as a week of nouns and their usage. Then a week of adverbs to make you sound professional and fluent. These steps will make it harder to give up.
