Customer Center Download training videos, best practice guides, procedures, or other documents from our Customer Center website. Hands-on users are jumping on this site on a daily basis to get the information they need to drive their Sharetec System in the most efficient way.

Customer Center can be accessed at www.bradfordscott.com/login_cu.php. A non-disclosure agreement must be completed in advance of receiving the login information for this “customer only” site. If you are interested, please contact Bonnie Doolittle at [email protected] or call (260) 625-5107 for the sign-up form.

To print names and addresses from Sharetec to be used for mailings using window envelopes, you can use the “print mailers” feature. Print mailers have been printed using Okidata voucher models for years or by printing on a full sheet of paper using a laser printer. With a setup change, you can now use your Epson Receipt printer too, which will save you a lot of paper compared to the Okidata voucher and laser printer options. With a quick fold to stay in place, many credit unions prefer creating their print mailers on the little Epson Receipt printers in order to save money. If you would like to try it out, please log a call to our Hardware Team and they will set it up for you.

Internet To-Do List:

• Get a website. Done – Check! • Create and send brochures, letters, advertising, etc. to Members. Done – Check! • Thinking about Home Banking, Mobile Banking…

STOP!Before you go any further, let’s go back to a step that may have been left out – SEO!

What is SEO you ask? Some of you may have heard of it before, others may wonder what this new acronym stands for.

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is the practice of promoting your website and improving your website’s listing in search engines in order to increase the number of visitors to your site. SEO includes many aspects, from the text on your website, to the way other sites link to your website. It can also be as simple as ensuring your site is structured properly so that search engines can understand what you offer.

“OK, now hold your horses!” you might be saying. This sounds too technical for just anyone to handle. Isn’t this something the people who set up our website does or do I have to hire someone else to handle this?

While you certainly can talk to your website provider or any of a multitude of other companies who can assist you with SEO, there will most likely be costs associated. However, there are some things you can do on your own to help promote your website on the Internet and help increase your rankings in search engines at little or no cost to you.

“Yeah, right. Nothing is free these days – there’s always a catch!” Well, there is one catch - You do have to take a little time to go to the websites listed below and make sure you provide them with the correct information about your Credit Union. Other than that, these few changes won’t cost you a dime and can make it significantly easier for your members or prospective members to find your Credit Union website or location information.

Google, as well as some other search engines, offers their own directory listings for free. In addition, below are a few links to some of the more popular search engines that offer free directory listings:

• Google: http://www.google.com/places/ • MapQuest: http://listings.mapquest.com • Bing: http://www.bingbusinessportal.com • Yahoo!: http://beta.listings.local.yahoo.com/basic.php

Extra Links - To go to the next level, which involves more directories and social networking. Below are a few additional sites that you may want to investigate further:

• Social Media: Check into Facebook business page, LinkedIn. • Check-In Services: Check out Foursquare, Google Places

Good Luck - and we hope that these ideas will help “Put your Credit Union on the Internet Map!”.

USERS CONFERENCE2012 ANNUAL

Another Successful Year at the Sharetec Users Conference The 16th Annual Sharetec Users Conference took place on August 28th – 30th, 2012, at the Grand Wayne Convention Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Guest speaker, Lee Wetherington kicked off the conference with his keynote address on “All Things Mobile”. His presentation got rave reviews and reminded us of our ever-changing advances in technology when it comes to mobile banking. Workshops and Hands-on Labs offered a wide array of topics. New this year – we offered a management series geared towards CEO’s and upper management – presented by peers Karen Gilliam-Brown and Teri McEwen. Many more of our business part-ners joined the conference this year and added an element of knowledge to the areas that they specialize in. Participants of this year’s user conference took advantage of the breaks and evening events as a platform for networking discussions and to exchange experiences. Good times were had by all in attendance and we look forward to next year!

tip of the week e-mails...To archive statements, start in the Back Office Workspace then go to Statement Processing to select Statement Manager. Select the folder located in the bottom browse area where statements are to be archived (for March 2011 you would select the [1103] folder), then right click on each statement file in the upper browse window and select “Archive”. To access the archived files, go to the appropriate YYMM folder in the bottom browse to see the statement files. Right click for options to print, view, or remove the files from the archive. To calculate the total dividend amount, total at maturity, or the APY, go to the Teller Workspace and click on Tools and then Savings Calculator. Select the product, enter the appropriate criteria, then press “calculate”. To prevent the use of a particular transaction code, unmark the online flag in Transaction Code Properties in the Administration menu under TX codes. Never delete a transaction code. If a member is having problems logging into Sharetec Home-banking, anyone logged in as the Admin user can see the reason for the trouble by looking at the system log. Examples of issues can be wrong email address, incorrect password, or incorrect answer to a security question.

The system allows users to select abbreviations for commonly used phrases on the system, called Quick Text. When the phrase is needed in any freeform text portion of the system, the user can type the abbreviation and hit the insert key to complete the phrase. Abbreviations can be set up in the tools section under Quick Text or “Control Q”. An example of a freeform text area is Collections. Users can set up “LM” for left message and when they need it just type LM and press the insert key.

When adding a relationship record (Relations tab in Central Information), it is important to remember to fill out all address and contact information. Some programs in Sharetec look to those records in order to print that information in reports and forms. To use the data in an existing member record, click the Look button next to the Joint Member # field to search for the member account to fill in many of the fields in the relation record.

Back-up Tape Storage Recommendations The life of a tape is strongly influenced by temperature and relative humidity. Storing magnetic tapes in a clean, controlled environment extends the life of the media. Temperature High temperatures, high humidity, and the presence of dust and corrosive elements in the air all affect the physical capability and deterioration of the tape. Extreme low temperatures should also be avoided. Guidelines for the safekeeping of a magnetic tape vary, but in general, it is recommended to store tapes at 68-73 degrees F and at 20-50% relative humidity. Cooler temperatures will prolong tape life even more.

Storage 1) Store tapes in clean plastic containers that provide protection from dust, pollutants, and excessive moisture. Sealed plastic bags, cardboard containers, and sleeves are not recommended for storage. Stored tapes should not be in proximity to magnetic fields generated from motors, elevators, headphones, speakers, microphones, magnetic cabinet latches, magnetized tools, and TV monitors. 2) Except for labels, paper should not be stored inside a tape storage container. Use labels that leave no residue on the tape after removal. 3) Shelving, drawers, and racks used for storage of magnetic media should be metal. Wooden shelving may expose a tape over time to contaminate gases and if a fire should occur, the tapes will be more susceptible to damage than if stored on metal. The tapes should be placed vertically in their storage cases and placed on shelves that should not be too close to heat sources, water pipes, and sprinkler heads.
