As a parish family I know that like me you are grateful for their many years of service and in very real terms, their sharing faith with our young people through the work of Holy Name Catholic Primary School. Some of you might have attend- ed the school in its infancy way back when it was called St Joseph’s. We are very grateful as we acknowledge the Sisters for their sisters who ministered here to those enquiring, those who were sick, were grieving or were dying, in many pastoral roles they generously under took. They were ministering to family. It would be remise not to mention the ministry of Sr Katherine McCabe whose service to the Aboriginal community over many years was a blessing to our twin towns. I welcome in a particular way those sisters who have served here in Forster Tuncurry and are with us today. Welcome home! Like many of the religious orders here in Australia, and worldwide, the sisters were and are pio- neers. They serve in tough times and over many decades in some hostile and remote localities; rugged and remote localities. They went where no man, literally, dared to tread! I was educated for a time by the Sisters of St Joseph in a little town called Smithton on the North West Coast of Tasmania. Beautiful farming land but also rugged and remote. My fondest memory is of Sr. Anna Durkin, the Principal, rolling up the edges of her habit, pinning it somehow under her belt so that she could lead the bowling during the lunch time cricket! She was an only girl in a family of boys and in later years she reflected how much she missed hanging out with her broth- ers. Very human and in some way the boys and the cricket at lunch time were a fond memory and gave comfort. I also remember at the morning break preparing the fire places for the sisters in the convent. I’m not sure today that we would entrust grade four boys to chop the wood and lay the fire places. I do remember the axe was as big as I was! The convent was a mysterious place that always smelt of bread. Different times! We sang on the Feast of Mary of the Cross Mackillop that ‘we are travelers here’ and were re- minded that we have a mission as followers of Christ. Mary might term it as ‘never seeing a need without doing something about it’. As we acknowledge the sisters this weekend we are reminded of both phrases. As travelers we do move on, leaving a lasting legacy, and in the case of the sis- ters, a lasting charism to the testament of great women, and a great woman in Mary of the Cross, called to share faith, to educate and to serve in Christ. May the Lord of our Joy continue to bless the Sisters in all that they do and for the lasting legacy of their presence amongst us here. Best wishes, Greg Parish Priest

Dear Parish Family,

With great joy we welcome Sr Lauretta Baker RSJ and eleven others Sisters of St Joseph to our parish. I am particularly pleased to be able to welcome home those sisters who have worked, ministered and lived here in Forster Tuncurry. As a parish family I know that like me you are grateful for their many years of service and in very real terms, their sharing faith with our young people through the work of Holy Name Catholic Primary School. Some of you might have attend-ed the school in its infancy way back when it was called St Joseph’s.

Like many of the religious orders here in Australia, and worldwide, the sisters were and are pio-neers.

She was an only girl in a family of boys and in later years she reflected how much she missed hanging out with her broth-ers.

We sang on the Feast of Mary of the Cross Mackillop that ‘we are travelers here’ and were re-minded that we have a mission as followers of Christ. Mary might term it as ‘never seeing a need without doing something about it’. As we acknowledge the sisters this weekend we are reminded of both phrases. As travelers we do move on, leaving a lasting legacy, and in the case of the sis-ters, a lasting charism to the testament of great women, and a great woman in Mary of the Cross, called to share faith, to educate and to serve in Christ.

May the Lord of our Joy continue to bless the Sisters in all that they do and for the lasting legacy of their presence amongst us here.

Best wishes,

Greg Parish Priest

Fanning the flame of RCIA

Date claimer for Saturday 19 Oc-tober 2019 to join with TeamRCIA cofounders, Nick Wagner and Diana Macalintal, who will visit us whilst they’re in Australia for the APMN national conference. This is an un-missable opportunity to be inspired and informed about RCIA, as the model for all initiation. Open to all - parishes already hosting RCIA, par-ishes looking into RCIA ministry, parish leaders, sacramental teams, school staff and all those who have a ‘fire in the belly’ for Christian initia-tion. There are fascinating and yet unexplored parallels between RCIA and the ministry of Catholic Schools. The opportunities here are boundless. Venue and time yet to be finalised but likely to be a full day

event.

You’re invited……. Family and Friends Group

There is a Family Group in our parish which has operated for about 29 years. It consists of approximately 30 - 40 individuals, friends or families. Its purpose is friendship and fellowship.

The Family Group gets together each month for an activity. The activities often involve eating - an afternoon tea, movies followed by a coffee at a local venue, picnics, quiz afternoons, a luncheon out and about or at someone’s home.

The Family Group is having a get to-gether for lunch at Terry and Carol Pearson’s home at 6 Figtree Drive, Diamond Beach. Just find Hallidays Point Public School and take the next 3 left hand turns.

Everyone is welcome. Please phone Terry or Carol on 0408768729 to let them know you are coming; or just turn up; it will be nice to welcome new participants.

Date: 18th August at 1pm – Crazy Wist or social chit chat. The game will start at 1:15pm so don’t be late. Please bring some nibbles, after-noon tea or just turn up. ___________________________________________________________________________________________
