ABOUT BARBADOS

Barbados is an island country in the Lesser Antilles of the West Indies, in the Caribbean region of North America. It is 34 kilometres (21 miles) in length and up to 23 km (14 mi) in width, covering an area of 432 km2 (167sq mi). It is situated in the western area of the North Atlantic and 100 km (62 mi) east of the Windward Islands and the Caribbean Sea; therein, Barbados is east of the Windwards, part of the Lesser Antilles, roughly at 13°N of the equator. It is about 168 km (104 mi) east of both the countries of Saint Lucia and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and 400 km (250 mi) north-east of Trinidad and Tobago. Barbados is outside the principal Atlantic hurricane belt. Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown.

Language- English is the official language of Barbados, and is used for communications, administration, and public services all over the island. Population- 286,388 People.Money- Barbadian dollar Post- full postal facilities are available at the main post offices in the cities, which are open seven days a week. ABOUT CITY “BRIDGETOWN”

Bridgetown is the capital and largest city of Barbados. Formerly The Town of Saint Michael, the Greater Bridgetown area is located within the parish of Saint Michael. Bridgetown is sometimes locally referred to as "The City", but the most common reference is simply "Town". As of 2014, its metropolitan population stands at roughly 110,000.

Bridgetown serves as a principal centre of commercial activity in Barbados, as well as a central hub for the island's public transport system. Many of the ministries and departments of the island's government are located within the Greater Bridgetown area.

The Public Buildings or parliament, which stand at the heart of the city directly north of Heroes Square, house the third oldest continuous parliament in the British Commonwealth. Bridgetown was the most important city of all British possessions in the New World due to the city's easterly location in the Caribbean region.

Barbados' main exports are sugar, rum, and molasses. The island is also involved in other industries namely tourism and the offshore sector.

The airline REDjet has its head office at Grantley Adams International Airport in Christ Church, near Bridgetown.

Bridgetown features a tropical wet and dry climate, with relatively constant temperatures throughout the course of the year.

While fairly hot, Bridgetown is cooled somewhat by the trade winds that affect weather in Barbados in general. ABOUT UNIVERSITY

The Bridgetown International University (BIU), established in 2017, is a medical school that has its campus in Bridgetown, Barbados, Caribbean Region, North America. Bridgetown International University provides education in the sector of Medicine & offers the Doctor of Medicine (MD) Program with a duration of 5 1/2 years to students from all around the world including students from India & neighboring countries, and African countries[1], among others, who have completed 12th Grade in school.

Government Information Service, Barbados reported that in the next 5 years, BIU plans to build a campus in Barbados to accommodate 5000 students.

MD PROGRAM MD program provides advanced academic as well as practical training to the students. The curriculum has been designed as per US medical standards. The MD (Doctor of Medicine) is a degree course of 5 years wherein the first 1 years is of the Pre-Medical, followed by 2 years of Basic Science program and the last 2 years of the Clinical Rotations where the student can get a golden opportunity to study and practice in the US and Barbados.

The University is affiliated with top and reputed hospitals where students can pursue their clinical training. During this period student gain a lot of exposure as they are taught how to work in a professional environment. The faculty encourages students to participate in various projects to enhance their abilities and to provide better exposure.

This period is said to be the golden period for every student as it gives them the opportunity to get exposed to the most ideal medical conditions and learn the best medical practices under professional environment.

The Premedical Program is a 1-year Program with four Trimesters. The course covers the following subjects as per the pre-scheduled patterns for each trimester:-

Once a candidate successfully completes this course with good grades, he/she advances into the Basic Medical Sciences program. This Pre Medical program is a mandatory part of MD program. The entire Premedical course at Biumed University has been defined based on the requirements of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE). The Pre-med program is actually considered as a revision or brushing up the course for the student who is preparing for the extensive medical studies.

The basic science program is actually extended under a duration of two years which emphasizes on teaching the students about the problem-based learning methodology. Students enrolled in this course are offered enhanced knowledge about the basic biomedical sciences, physical exam skills, and problem-solving techniques. These aspects tend to be pretty helpful in the real-time situation of their medical career.

The University organize the Clinical Rotation Program. The Clinical Science Program (comprising of final six trimesters) is an extended 72 weeks program of Clinical Rotation. The 72 weeks program is bifurcated into 48 weeks of Core Program and; 24 weeks of Elective Rotations at top affiliated hospitals based on performance of the students. This program not only enables the students to gain practical exposure but also gives them an opportunity to take responsibility of dealing with different practical scenarios which would further give them extensive knowledge. After successful completion of the Clinical Rotation Program, the students are awarded with the degree of Doctor of Medicine.
