Appendix 2: Briefing re pharmacies’ public health role

Healthy Living Pharmacies (HLP)

There are 12 designated HLPs in Brighton and Hove.

Two years ago HLPs received additional PH funded training: understanding health improvement, supporting health behaviour change & making the most of your displays.

It was agreed then that HLPs would focus on a different health issue each month.

The Audrey Emerton Library send HLPs the relevant leaflets and posters.

For the bigger campaigns (Stoptober, World Mental Health Day, No Smoking Day) the library have been sending resources to all GP practices & all pharmacies.

The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) has demonstrated pharmacies’ interest in their health promotion role so the number designated as HLPs is likely to increase.

The 12 designated HLPs are:

Lloyds, Longridge Ave, Saltdean

Boots, Boundary Rd

Kamsons, Parkside, Preston Rd

Fields, Eldred Ave

IV Jones, St James St

Kamsons, The Highway Moulsecoomb
