Guildford area

Guildford is the largest town in Surrey, and contains a vibrant historic town centre. With a large historic High Street it’s surrounded by well-known high street brands as well as lots of independents located in the pretty side lanes. Within the town centre there is also much to see and discover, including Guildford House Gallery, a grade one town house, now an art gallery, Guildford Castle Keep with its fantastic views across the town and Guildford Cathedral located on the hill which overlooks the town, hosts exhibitions and events as well as being a place of worship.

In the wider Guildford area, why not get active and visit the Spectrum for some bowling, or ice-skating, across the road is the original 1930’s Lido, perfect in the hot summer weather. Not far from the Lido is Wild Wood tree top adventure, or Stoke Park perfect for picnics.

You can also take the bus out to some of Surrey’s picturesque villages, including Wonersh, Shamley Green or Bramley. Cranleigh is known as England’s largest village, and with shops, cafes, and restaurants it’s a good way to spend some time. By bus you can definitely stop off at one of the pubs, for lunch, afternoon tea and certainly something stronger!

If you fancy a walk, then the North Downs trail is perfect. As a long distance national trail it runs from Farnham all the way to Dover in Kent. In Guildford you can pick up the trial near to Shalford.

Woking area

Woking is one of the most vibrant and modern towns in Surrey. The heart of the town has recently undergone a complete refurbishment creating a large open central square surrounded by cafes and shopping. With large shopping malls leading off from the central square visitors can shop till they drop, with the many well known high-street brands on offer.

The town centre has a good cultural and arts offer, with The Lightbox a modern art exhibition space open to the public showing national and international art exhibitions. The New Victoria theatre offers a night out for theatre, musicals, comedy, and music, and the next door cinema screens the very latest block-busters.

Also in the town is the national headquarters for WWF, their Living Planet Centre allows visitors to see their work, and learn more about our amazing planet. Woking

is home to the Surrey History Centre, where the county of Surrey holds its historical archives. Here visitors can learn about Surrey’s heritage and explore their own family ancestry.

Further afield, Woking is surrounded by pretty villages and attractions. From Brooklands Museum, the birth-place of British motor-sport and aviation to Brookwood Cemetery the largest cemetery in western Europe, to a day on a boat hired at Byfleet Boat Club. 2016 is the 150th anniversary of HG Wells author of War of the Worlds. Written whilst Wells was living in Woking, the martians landing is based on his walks across Horsell Common. Visitors can enjoy a trail through Horsell Common and around the town, following in Well’s footsteps.
