Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a program that allows you to bring your own device to school to be used for education purposes.

Why should we do it?

Having a mobile device in your hands allows you to access information quickly.

It gives you a tool that can help you work in many ways.

Who can participate?

Anyone who has a device, has parent permission, and follows all of the rules (grades 2 - 5).

Where will my device be stored?

Each classroom teacher is responsible for providing a SECURE place to store devices during times that your class is out of the classroom.

When and where can I use my device?

Red places – Devices cannot be used & must be storedBathrooms, cafeteria, before and after school, and

Rules/Procedures

Students must turn off cellular signal (if applicable) and utilize the school’s miDevice network.

Students will be responsible for charging their devices at home.

Nintendo and other portable gaming devices are NOT allowed.

Any unapproved device will be sent home (see school website for a list – www.dodgeeagles.com under BYOD tab).

Any student who brings a device without the signed permission form will NOT be allowed to use their device.

Rules/Procedures

Students should know how to: Turn the device on/off

Set it on silent

Access settings/Wi-Fi

Devices should have a protective case. Students cannot share devices. Taking, posting, or transmitting recorded images or video

shall be limited to that which is related to school assignments and projects and shall only be done in accordance with the MCPSS/Dodge Internet Acceptable Use Policy.

Apps should be downloaded at home by the parent.

Responsibility

Students should only bring approved devices and assume the responsibility of the device. Any damage that occurs to the device will NOT be the responsibility of the school or school district.

Consequences

1st offense - Warning, Call Home, Restrictive use of device

2nd offense - User’s device will be restricted from the Wi-Fi network

3rd offense - User’s device will be blocked from the Wi-Fi network

4th offense - User’s device will be blocked from the Wi-Fi network and is subject to the MCPSS discipline policy

MCPSS Acceptable Use Policy

Network and Internet access is provided as a tool for education.

Access will be provided to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner.

Students are responsible for good behavior on the school computer network and Internet just as they are in a classroom or a school hallway.

As communications on the network and Internet are often public in nature, general school rules for behavior and communications apply (see Student Handbook and Code of Conduct).

Independent but supervised student use of digital resources will be permitted upon the submission of the agreement form located in the student enrollment information.

MCPSS Acceptable Use Policy The use of Internet resources accessed from any

computer that is the property of the school system or any computer connected to a local area network within any school system facility is a privilege, not a right, and inappropriate use will result in the cancellation of those privileges and/or punishment for such violations as prescribed in the Student Handbook and Code of Conduct.

Mobile County Public School System will utilize filtering software or other technologies to prevent students from accessing materials that are (1) obscene, (2) pornographic, or (3) harmful to minors.

Schools will also monitor the online activities of students, through direct observation and/or technological means.

MCPSS Acceptable Use Policy

Student email should only be used for educational purposes. Students should not open files or attachments from unknown persons. Students should use appropriate language.

Students should use the internet and network resources in a courteous and respectful manner. Do not post anything that you wouldn’t want your parents or teachers to see.

Internet Safety

Students should never share personal information without parent permission.

(phone number, address, social security number, birthday, financial information)

Students should never agree to meet someone they met online.

Student should notify an adult if they see anything that makes them feel uncomfortable. (image, message, comment)
