IN the beginning there was nothing but chaos. And out of this chaos a great force began bringing about order; some how defining the laws of nature, physics and other mysterious things not visible to us… eventually forming the heavens and the earth; ourselves and everything we know. Whether we choose to view these phenomena as creation or evolution or perhaps some combination of the two, it is clear to most that there seems to be a purpose behind it. If there is a purpose to our existence, then it holds that there is meaning behind our existence. It may be evidenced by the fact that we spend our better days passionately studying, measuring, sorting, organizing, editing, harmoniz- ing, building and otherwise trying to make sense of our world. We are emulating these forces that are determined to derive order from chaos, emulating the forces that brought us into being while we search for our own raison d’etre. On the surface, chaos appears to be a problematic and undesirable universal phe- nomenon. However, it is the very “Prima Materia” of creation. This chaos presents us with the opportu- nity for invention and innovation.Human tendency in the face of this chaos is to become negative, destruc- tive and divisive. We must turn from these jaded and self-absorbed views and recognize that this is our time. We can easily divide the motivations for all actions into two camps; reactions driven by fear, and actions driven by love. This is our turn to be driven by love and to be constructive. In this way, we believe, we emulate the creative forces in this universe, forces whose love is evident in the beauty all around us. This love was expressed by the masters that have gone before us. As we look back with reverence and respect, we must stand on their shoulders and reach even higher. We owe it to our predecessors, to ourselves, to those who will follow in our footsteps. We are co-authors of our own destiny. This is our purpose. Welcome to the Twenty-First Century.
