Production & Other News Wednesday Club FEBRUARY, 2020. As we push away from Europe and are dazzled by the bright lights of expectation, Wednesday Club remains stolidly unchanged. We will still have the same boring format, and the same belligerent clientele. Our first ‘Memory Cafe’ went well, with Jim Redman and ‘The Acca-bellas’, Closely followed by a couple of Wednesday meetings where we caught up on our regular reviews. ‘Babe’ was a delightful production, enjoyed by all of us. It was a shame that houses were small, despite the quality of the direction and acting. A favourite moment was John Pierce bath-ing a pig! Then came ‘Time of my Life’, which again was thoroughly enjoyed. The turn of the decade seemed to encourage our punters, and so we had some almost full houses for the run. Speaking of ‘The Turn of the Decayed’, John Hall returns for another quiz.....there may even be some questions I can answer this time.... Our first Acumen Poetry meeting of 2020 showcases Eleanor West-wood and Suzy Miles, plus our regular Poetry Slam. The following week, Jim Redman will describe ‘The Palace of Knossos’ with slides (even though it’s not a playground), then on Friday 7th, Lee Millan and I will entertain the ‘Memory Cafe’ regulars. We then have the welcome return of Margaret Forbes-Hamilton, giving her talk (which has nothing to do with hair-dye) entitled ‘Back to my Roots’. Margaret has had some memorable experiences since leaving her native New Zealand. The following week we will review ‘The Wolves of Willoughby Chase’, and we round February off with ‘Don’t put your Daughter on the Stage, Mrs Worthington’, being...I think you’ve guessed... a tribute to Noel Coward, by David Streeter and Lydia Sweet. Rita Wood will entertain with ‘Vinyl Revisited’ on 4th March. Sounds intriguing! John Miles

TOADS Support for local Chari es Thank you from The Na onal Trust English Riviera region and The Special Care Baby Unit, Torbay Hospital Sue Gorman, Fundraising Manager NT: I just wanted to say a very big thank you for le ng our por olio of proper es benefit from the dress rehearsal of Time of My Life on Saturday 11 January. I appreciate that Pat and Roger Tisdall worked extremely hard on our behalf to set it up and whilst we didn’t hit our target of 240 ckets, we were able to generate £890 through dona ons which is a tremendous start to our anniversary campaign. We’re aiming to raise £125,000 across the region to support four key appeals, all of which will help us make nature more accessible to everyone. The volunteer team on the night were amazing, the venue beau ful and the performance highly entertaining – so all in all, a great night out.

The Special Care Baby Unit: From Jane, on behalf of all the babies, the parents and staff, Thank you, for the generous dona on of ckets. They raised an amazing £1273.00 on the night.

PROPS TIDY TEAM REQUESTS I am pleased to report that we have two new members on our team - Sam Hughes and Hilary O'Reilly. Thank you ladies for responding to the call for help! There is s ll a need for another helper, if anyone is interested. In par cular it would be great if someone joined us who would like to learn how to repair and renovate props. We meet on Tuesday mornings, 10.30 to about 1.00. Also, in the near fu-ture some of us will be sor ng out the Plays Library, which is burs ng its seams! That would be on a Friday and/or Saturday for a few weeks once we get started. Please get in touch if you are interested (my contact details on the back of the CROAK.) On a different note - we would be very grateful if props were le outside the Props Room for us to put away a er they have been used. This is so we can check them over, remind ourselves of what is being used, and so we can put them away in the correct places! It would make things much easier for us, and those who use the cataloguing systems to find things. However, we are happy for you to get heavy items put back in the rehearsal rooms and containers - PROVIDING THEY GO BACK WHERE THEY CAME FROM !!! Sorry to nag. Anne Jordan In the props room…. Jon Manley?! you haven’t ‘arf changed!

COFFEE SHOP VOLUNTEERS URGENTLY REQUIRED TOADS cafe (coffee shop) continues to struggle when it comes to volunteers. Maybe you'd like to learn even though you've not indicated "coffee shop" as an area of interest. There's nothing too onerous plus you get to leave after the interval. In practical terms this usually means being at the theatre from 6.30pm to 9pm. If you'd like to help out please contact Joy Book (coffee shop goddess) by emailing: [email protected]

Joy will be only too happy to arrange any brief training needed.
