Rooiberg Rendezvous – 24 September 2015
Stap, draf of trap tot bo op Rooibergpas by die Klipstapel op Erfenis dag, of ook bekend
as nasionale braaidag. Almal gaan saam braai by Groenevlei Natuur Reservaat, Cape
Nature se oornagkamp. Alle braai benodigdhede, tafels en stoele moet self saamgebring
word.
Almal ontmoet om 12:00 by Groenevlei Natuur Reservaat. Staptyd begin om 13:00.
Die Vanwyksdorpers sal wegspring 7.9km voor Klipstapel aan die Vanwyksdorp kant en
die Calitzdorpers sal begin stap by Groenevlei Natuur Reservaat, 6.5km vanaf Klipstapel
aan Calitzdorp kant. Die stap/klim sal min of meer 3.5 uur neem (eenrigting). Diegene
wie wil stap, kontak asb vooraf vir Zelma of Derick sodat vervoer gereël kan word vanaf
Klipstapel terug na beginpunte. Vrywaringsvorms sal geteken word deur alle
deelnemers.
Die wat wil stap kan stap en die wat wil bly om te kuier kan solank begin braai en kuier.
Belangstellendes wat graag die son en maan op dieselfde tyd wil sien, kan om 20:00 by
die Klipstapel ontmoet met eie vervoer om die raar verskynsel te sien. Diegene wat vir
aandete wil braai, is welkom om na die maankyk weer terug te gaan kamp toe en verder
te braai.

Ons wil graag ‘n beroep doen op alle Calitzdorpers om ons asb op hoogte te hou van gebeurtenisse in en om die dorp, sodat ons dit

De Krans weer Kampioen Kelder
De Krans Wynkelder in Calitzdorp is verlede week weer, soos in 2014, aangewys as die
Kampioen Privaat Kelder in die Klein Karoo by die 2015 Klein Karoo Jongwynskou.
De Krans se wynmaker Louis van der Riet het vanjaar veral uitstekend gevaar met sy
natuurlike wyne. Die 2015 Free Run Chenin Blanc is aangewys as die Kampioen Witwyn van
die Klein Karoo Jongwynskou en was ook die Kampioen Chenin Blanc vir 2015.
Die 2015 Basket Press Cabernet Sauvignon is aangewys as die Kampioen Cabernet Sauvignon
van die streek en die 2015 Wild Ferment Chardonnay is bekroon as Reserwe-Kampioen
Chardonnay van die Klein Karoo.
De Krans het vanjaar ook die meeste klaswenners by die skou verower, nie minder as 7 vir
verskillende wyne van oor die hele wynspektrum.
De Krans het ook uitstekend gevaar by die 2015 SA Jongwynskou deur drie goue medaljes
(twee vir portwyne van De Krans en een vir die Free-Run Chenin Blanc 2015) en verskeie
silwer medaljes te verower by hierdie skou.
Volgens Louis van der Riet is hierdie uitslae ‘n bewys dat De Krans nie net uitstekende
portwyne berei nie (soos die SA Kampioen Port trofees in 2012 en 2014 reeds deeglik bewys
het), maar ook puik natuurlike wyne van kultivars soos Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay en
Cabernet Sauvignon, wat met die beste wyne in die land kan saampraat.
ADe Krans se 2015 Free-Run Chenin Blanc en 2014 Wild-Ferment Chardonnay het verlede week ook albei goue medaljes verower by die landwye 2015 Gold Wine Awards kompetisie.

The Kombuis Calitzdorp’s first pop-up restaurant.
We are proud to announce the opening of Calitzdorp’s first pop-up restaurant on the 11th of September 2015.
Name: The Kombuis Venue: Church Street, Calitzdorp, in one of Calitzdorp’s oldest Cape-style cottages.
Cuisine: The chef’s; Anup Bagasi, favourite dishes, tastes from the Indian continent to the continental Europe. Chef Bagasi studied
Culinary Arts at the Institute of Hotel Management in Hyderabad, India. Local, seasonal produce will be used to create the food.
The menu will change every fortnight. No liquor license, so bring your own and only a nominal corkage fee will apply.
Ambience: Old world charm, seating inside the charming old cottage and outside in the beautiful back garden. Dinner will be
served in a quiet and quaint atmosphere under the Klein Karoo sky.

We were broken into at Calitzdorp Country House on Saturday 5 September. Amongst the items that were stolen, was my 2014 Indianapolis 500 Cap. Maybe one of the criminals will be stupid enough to wear it? Please look out for anyone wearing the cap and maybe ask your staff to do the same. We need to do everything we can to get to the bottom of the escalating crime in our town. Would you like to learn more about sustainable living and organic farming practices?
In Vanwyksdorp several small farms are implementing a variety of organic farming methods. We have come together to offer a low cost Sustainable Living Weekend.
You will have the opportunity to interact with us on guided farm tours, ask questions, share experiences and hopefully find some answers! The
Vanwyksdorp Sustainable Living Weekend is an opportunity to learn about:
small scale organic food production
food processing and preservation
water wise gardening
small scale beekeeping
chicken farming
alternative energy
alternative building
and much more…
Dates 11-13th September 2015 (Friday to Sunday)
We would like to begin on Fri morning, so it would be better to arrive
the previous evening.
Location Vanwyksdorp is in the Klein Karoo, close to the well-known R62.
Our closest towns are Riversdale and Ladismith. NB No fuel in
Vanwyksdorp!
Costs There are variables, but you can budget on about R150 per family for
registration for the weekend. Meals, accommodation, transport,
stationery, local produce etc, are not included.
We would encourage our visitors to invest in our community fund, to
assist with empowering the disadvantaged.
Self-catering accommodation will cost R 200 – R250 pppn. There is
also a campsite.
Transport
There are a number of people who want to come from a distance. Let
us know if you would be interested in sharing transport, or even in
arranging a taxi or bus for shared transport.
Format Chiefly “Walk and Talk” tours around organic farming, small
commercial farming, transition from city to farm, sustainable farming,
lifestyle farming, alternative building methods, alternative energy,
alternative water purification, bee-keeping, chicken farming, compost
making. These tours will be guided by the landowners, where they
will share “Tips, Tricks and Traps”, as they talk about their own
voyage of discoveries and mistakes.
There will also be formal sessions.
Children Numerous people have asked about bringing children. Our town has a
wonderfully relaxed Klein Karoo atmosphere. Children will probably
find the tours very interesting, but I must add that a mass of
information will be communicated in a very practical manner as
people move around the farm tours. It will be VERY informative, but
might become overwhelming for young children.

immediate area. Nicole Crisp is the person on our committee who will
be dealing with questions regarding accommodation and the various

The 50km starts in Calitzdorp and winds its way along the R62, through Huisrivier pass, past
Zoar to Ladismith. The 25km race starts in Zoar and follow the same road along the R62 to
Ladismith. The 5km are around Ladismith’s suburbs.

Bicycle Rentals at Tourism office
Great news, another improvement developed at Calitzdorp Tourism, adding to
our growing list of contributions.
Calitzdorp Tourism offers bicycles for rental. Rentals are based on a hour to
hour basis. Very important with regards to returns: the office close at 17:00
from Monday - Friday and at 13:00 on a Saturday. We are closed on Sundays, but arrangements can be made in advance.
Our bikes come with a helmet. They are perfect for exploring the town. Forget about the traffic and enjoy the town sights at your own pace, while breathing in
the rich culture of Calitzdorp. Our bikes are also ideal for the more challenging
trips. If you’re interested in exploring Calitzdorp’s natural surroundings then this bike’s for you. Last but not least: when hiring equipment you’re required
to pay a security cash deposit in case of damage/theft and a copy of your
identity book/passport (we will make the copy).
Security cash deposit: R100
Cost: R25/hour or R100/day
