We, the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed
Virgin Mary, are a beacon on the hill in the heart of
Juneau. We welcome everyone to participate in our rich

worship, and through our relationships.

St. Patrick: A Short History
St. Patrick, like St. Valentine, is one of those Saints that
seems to have more legends about him than data. How-
ever, unlike St. Valentine, there are a few more things
we can know about him other than he exists.
St. Patrick wrote two documents that still survive today:
an autobiography called The Confessions of St. Patrick
and a letter reprimanding an Irish chieftain called the
Letter to the soldiers of Coroticus.
In these documents we discover the story of a Roman boy kidnapped by raid-
ers and sold into slavery in Ireland. Patrick found his Faith as a slave, eventu-
ally escaping back to his home and becoming a priest. He heard God’s call to
return to Ireland as a missionary to convert and minister to his former captors.
He obeyed, and is largely responsible for the conversion of the entire popu-
lace.
That seems quite a bit more impressive than driving out snakes, doesn’t it?

Help Support The Glory
Hall! What we do: We are Juneau’s emergency homeless shelter and soup kitchen. Our mission is to provide food, shelter and compassion to those in need. We are open everyday. We provide over 50,000 meals and 10,000 bed nights each year.
What you can do: Pray for the poor. The Gospel message includes an imperative to help those in need. Volunteer! Parishioners from the Cathedral cook for the Glory Hall patrons on the third Thursday of each month. If you’d like to help out, contact Mark Hunt at 523-0379. Donate. The Glory Hall relies on the generous donations from the community. You can donate by giving to the Cathedral’s So Others May Eat monthly collection, or you can donate online at feedjuneau.org.

Transform your Fast
Consider putting all the money you save while fasting to good use. Put it into a program like Catho-
lic Relief Services’ Rice Bowl, so that when you fast, others may eat.
Family
Promise
We will be hosting at the Cathedral March 24-31.
Volunteer Needs: I am using SignUp genius to track our volunteer shifts. If you would prefer not to use it, please just email or call me and I will sign you up for your preferred shift!
We need at least 2 adults per shift. If you have kids, please consider bringing them along for an evening hosting shift! I have added two new volunteer shifts: grocery shopping on the Saturday before (the 23rd) and laundry after our week! If either of these shifts sound like something you are able to help with, please be sure to add those slots to your sign-up!
