Dear Fellow Parishioners, We want to invite you to read the following paragraphs about our new Parochial Administrator Fr. Tomás Hurta-do. The information below is an excerpt from an article published by the Florida Catholic on July 15, 2016. Father Tomás Hurtado came from Santa Clara, Cuba, where he was ordained in 2002. He left Cuba in 2003 and served two years in Miami before arriving in Orlando in 2005. He first served at St. Catherine of Sienna Parish in Kissimmee, and then he was transfer to St. John Vianney Parish in Orlando and finally became paro-chial vicar at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Apopka. Three years ago he applied for Incardina-tion, a process which allows priests to relo-cate to respond to the need to minister to God’s people, becoming permanently as-signed to a new diocese. On June 22, 2016 Father Tomás professed his oath of incardi-nation to Bishop John Noonan which means that he will solely serve the Diocese of Or-lando. Father Hurtado said, “I have been working in the diocese here longer than I did in my own of Santa Clara. Life as a priest in Cuba was a very difficult experience because of all the restrictions.” He had served in three towns, celebrating Mass, feeding and educating the poor and administering the Sacraments to the faithful, but there were obstacles. The existing repression in Cuba stifles the Church’s abil-ity to evangelize and prevents people from publicly ex-pressing their faith. “It was difficult for me in my child-hood because I grew up with two ideologies,” he said. “In the school there was communist ideology and at home, the faith and all the beliefs,” Hurtado said. “I was free to practice my faith with some restrictions. In my time, we did not have holidays at Christmas. In order for me to celebrate Christmas with my family, my father had to tell the school that I had an appointment with the doc-tor. Thank God my family kept the faith at home.” Father Hurtado said that the greatest difference between being a priest in Cuba versus the U.S. is the freedom that the church has in the United States. He said, “It was very difficult for the church in Cuba to help the needy as they do here ; It was very hard for the children to get close to the church due to what they were being taught and the suspicions of the government.” As we announced last week, he will begin his assign-ment in our parish this coming September 1st. Queridos Feligreses, Queremos invitarlos a leer los siguientes párrafos acer-ca de nuestro nuevo administrador parroquial, el Padre Tomás Hurtado. La siguiente información fue tomada de un artículo publicado por el periódico Florida Catholic, el 15 de julio de 2016. El Padre Tomás Hurtado vino de Santa Clara, Cuba, lugar donde fue ordenado en el año 2002. Él salió de Cuba en el 2003 y sirvió por dos años en Miami antes de llegar a Orlando en el 2005. Primeramente sirvió en la parroquia Santa Catalina de Siena de Kissimmee, luego fue trasla-

do a la parroquia de San Juan Vianney en Orlando y finalmente se convirtió en vica-rio parroquial de la parroquia San Francis-co de Asís en Apopka. Hace tres años el aplico para el proceso de incardinación, el cual permite a sacerdotes ser reubicados para responder a la necesi-dad de ministrar al pueblo de Dios, siendo asignado permanentemente a una diócesis nueva. El 22 de junio del 2016 el Padre To-más profesó su juramento de incardina-ción al Obispo John Noonan, lo que signifi-ca que servirá únicamente a la diócesis de Orlando. El Padre Hurtado dijo, "he estado trabajando aquí en la diócesis más tiempo del que trabajé Diócesis de Santa Clara. La vida como sacerdote en Cuba era una experiencia muy difícil debido a las restric-ciones." Él había servido en tres pueblos,

celebrando Misa, alimentando y educando a los pobres y administrando los sacramentos a los fieles, pero hubo muchos obstáculos. La represión existente en Cuba coarta la capacidad de la iglesia para evangelizar y evita que las personas expre-sen públicamente su fe. Él dijo, "fue muy difícil para la iglesia en Cuba poder ayudar a los necesitados de igual manera como lo hacen aquí... era bastante complicado para que los niños se acercaran a la iglesia debido a lo que fueron enseñados y a las sos-pechas del gobierno". Jubilee Year of Mercy August 28, 2016

Twenty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time “Alms atone for sins” (Sirach 2:29). Alms are mercy translated into hands-on compassion. Jesus confirms Si-rach’s wisdom, “Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy” (Matthew 5:7). “Conduct

your affairs with humility” (Sirach 3:17). Humility: we’re all alike and special, for we’re children of God. Jesus confirms that wisdom, too: “Do not re-cline at table in the place of honor. Take the lowest place” (Luke 14:8, 10). In fact, “When you hold a lunch or a dinner, do not invite friends, relatives, wealthy neighbors. Invite the poor, crippled, lame, blind,” physically or figuratively, society’s most vulnerable and marginalized, “who cannot repay you” (see 14:12–14). Jesus seems to be telling us to prepare for eternity with God’s chosen by becoming their friend here and now. Mercy is measured not by our delight in welcoming those we like most or who can repay us best, but by sincerely embracing those we like least, who cannot

repay us at all. Utter humility inspires pure mercy; pure mercy leads to eternal joy.

Vigésimo Segundo Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario “En tus asuntos procede con humil-

dad” (Eclesiástico 3,17). Humildad: todos somos parecidos y únicos porque somos hijos de Dios. Jesús nos da una expli-

cación de lo que es tener humildad “no te sientes en el lugar principal . . . ocupa el último lugar” (Lucas 14,8, 10). De hecho “cuando des una comida o una cena, no invites a tus amigos, ni a tus hermanos, ni a tus parientes, ni a los vecinos ricos; . . . Invita a los pobres, a los lisiados, a los cojos y a los ciegos” física o simbólicamente, los más vulnerables y marginados de la sociedad “porque ellos no tienen con qué pagar-te” (ver 14,12–14). Parece que Jesús está por decirnos que nos preparemos para la eternidad con los elegi-dos de Dios haciéndonos su amigo aquí y ahora. La misericordia no se mide por el placer de ser anfitrio-

nes de quienes mejor nos pueden devolver el favor de una invitación, sino por aceptar sinceramente la compañía de

aquellas personas que no nos caen bien, de quien no podrían devolvernos el favor de una invitación. Una completa humil-dad inspira misericordia pura y una misericordia pura nos

guía a una alegría eterna. ��

Welcome back to Liturgy of the Word for Children at the 11:00 Mass. Beginning August 28 children

Once they assem-ble in the Gathering Room, the Gos-pel for Sunday will be proclaimed and their little hearts will be open to hear God’s holy Word. The children return to their parents at the Creed.
