Salt for the Week

Talk about being short-sighted! Both the disciples and the woman at the well couldn’t see what Jesus was getting at…

Jesus’ simple request for a drink of water got completely derailed into

religious and political drama. And as Jesus continued to share insight into the larger picture while at the same time focusing on insight into the woman herself, the picture became painfully clear.

And the disciples couldn’t see much better— worried more about who He was talking to instead of what He was saying..

Short-sighted, huh? Like me. Like you.

It was only when Jesus opened her eyes by saying “I am he, the one speaking to you,” did the eyes of her heart become opened. And with that she ran into town and said “Come see a man who told me everything I have done!”

That woman got 20/20 vision! And many more began to believe because of her word. How about you? How about your word?

Open my eyes Lord.

Gospel and Homily Reflections March 15—Third Sunday of Lent

Imagine how the woman in the gospel account felt during her conversation with Jesus? How would I have felt?

What do you think was her deep thirst in life? How was she lacking in Jesus’ “2020” vision? What is a deep thirst in my life? What is

something very, very important to me? Is it Jesus?

When we are really thirsty, what do we usually do?

How do we know that Jesus really loved this woman?

How do I know that Jesus really loves me? What do the woman and I have in common?

at St. Mark Parish March 22-24

Soup Supper—5:30 p.m. Speaker—Anthony Digmann—7:00 p.m.

Join us for a three-night pastorate-wide mission.

Plan to attend each night. However, if you are unable to make one night, don’t let that stop you

from attending the others. Each night is a stand-alone session.

Reconciliation will follow the Mission on Tuesday

and Wednesday nights from 8:00-9:00 p.m.

Reception of Precious Blood…As we are in the middle of a bad flu season, and in light of best practices for the spreading of illness, some reminders of our Pastorate practice: We will continue to offer Holy

Communion under the form of bread only, remembering that we teach that Christ is present “Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity” in the sacred host alone.

While either is permitted, it is suggested to receive Holy Communion in the hand, so the Communion ministers do not come in contact with your tongue.

Parishioners are encouraged to greet each other at the start of Mass verbally, without a handshake.

The Sign of Peace is not the time for kisses or handshakes, but actually a prayer “Peace be with you” or “Shalom.” Again, a verbal recognition sharing a prayer.

St. Patrick, Colesburg Sunday Eucharist Celebration

First & third Sundays of month—8:00 a.m.

WOW! We had 660 people attend our Fish Fry on March 6. THANK YOU to the planning committee, all those who attended and supported our first try at this, and all who worked before, during, and after the event. Each and every one of you made this a tremendous success. J&D did not cater the event but donated some of the food and worked hard to help organize throughout the night. We thank Dan Wheeler from Earlville who let us borrow his fryers and volunteered his time to come over and help us learn how to best cook the fish. We also appreciate all those who donated food for the food pantry. We don't have final profit numbers yet, but will let you know when we do. Thank you all so very, very much! What a fine example of BEING CHURCH! Easter Flowers—Once again, we offer our parishioners the opportunity to donate toward Easter flowers to enhance our worship environment in memory of those you would like to remember. To do this, please contact Rosalee Boeckenstedt (563-920-4816) with the name(s) of those people.. Thank you for helping to enhance our worship. The names of all our loved ones will be listed in one of the weekly bulletins during the Easter season. St Patrick Is Sponsoring a Food Drive during Lent. Needed items are listed under St. Mary in the bulletin. Please be generous.

Hey! Have We Got an Offer for You! We’ve got a brand new sparkling clean building and we want to keep it that way! Would you be interested in helping with that? We are looking for someone to do general cleaning in the

Parish Center after events so that it is ready for the next event. Call Sandy Klaus (563-928-7200—pastorate office or 563-543-0566—cell) if you are interested or if you would like more information.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter is a Catholic faith-based marriage enrichment program that has been providing couples with better communication skills and tools for over 50 years. Upcoming weekends— April 24-26 at Ankeny and May 29-31 at Dubuque. For more information or to register, go to iowa-wwme.org or call 563-608-3305. “An Evening for the Divorced and Separated and Those Who Love Them” —hosted by the Archdiocese of Dubuque with author and speaker Rose Sweet on Friday, March 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at St. Piux X Church, Cedar Rapids. Come hear what the Catholic Church teaches about divorce and how the Church can help those who have experienced it. There will be a talk, refreshments, and time for Q & A. To RSVP, go to www.DBQArch.org/Divorce Holy Land Olive Art—On the weekend of March 21-22, Sager Salman (Holy Land Olive Art) will visit four of our parishes (St. Joseph, St. Mary, Sacred Heart, and St. Mark) to sell religious art carved from olive wood of the Holy Land. Because of many conditions in the Holy Land, Catholics have found it hard to make a living and provide for their families. Selling this art has helped to improve this situation. Archbishop Joseph-Jules Zerey, Archbishop of Jerusalem, encourages us to consider purchasing some of this beautiful olive wood art.

Financial Stewardship—When Jesus asked the Samaritan woman for a drink of water, He opened the door for a life-changing relationship with Him. Scripture says her testimony drew many others to Him as well. We, too, must be ready to respond whenever and wherever the Lord speaks to us and be prepared for it to change our lives! The BeFriender Ministry of the Emmaus Pastorate will meet at St. Mary Church in Manchester at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16.

First Eucharist Preparation—Please keep our ten second grade students and their catechist in your prayers as they continue their journey toward receiving the Sacrament of Eucharist. They recently shared a day together during a retreat. Junior High Students—Please keep our junior high school students in your prayers as they prepare for a vocations retreat on Saturday, March 21. The Pay It Forward Fund contributed to the Chris Jackson Benefit and a memorial, helped to pay down an Alliant Energy bill and transportation costs for medical treatments, and helped a young family after a fire in the past couple months. Thank you for your generosity. “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want.” Proverbs 11:24
