“I’m going to be like you” I missed the birth of my son because I was too busy working. While I was away on business, he learned how to walk. Before I knew it, he was able to talk. When we spoke on the phone, he used to ask: When are you coming home, Dad?” “I don’t know”, I used to say, “But when I do, we’ll get together and have a good time” And as he was growing up, he would say: “Dad, I’m going to be like you”. For his tenth birthday, I gave him a football. He asked me to come out and play with him, but I had too much to do. He didn’t seem to mind. He still used to say: “I’m going to be like you, Dad”. Eventually, he grew up and went to college. I was so proud of him. One day, he came home and I asked him to sit down for a chat. But he just smiled and said “Sorry Dad, I don’t have time, but what I’d really like is to borrow the car key”. I've been retired for some time now and my son has moved away. I phoned him the other day and said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind." He said, "I'd love to, Dad, only if I could find the time. You see, my new job is stressful, and my kid has flu. But it's been nice talking to you." And as I put down the phone I realized that he'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me. 1. “I’m going to be like you”

I missed the birth of my son because I was too busy working. While I was away on business, he learned how to walk. Before I knew it, he was able to talk. When we spoke on the phone, he used to ask: “When are you coming home, Dad?”“I don’t know”, I used to say, “But when I do, we’ll get together and have a good time”And as he was growing up, he would say: “Dad, I’m going to be like you”.

I phoned him the otherday and said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind." He said, "I'd love to, Dad, only if I could find the time. You see, my new job is stressful, and my kid has flu. But it's been nice talking to you."

And as I put down the phone I realized that he'd grown up just like me. My boy was just like me.
