WELCOME

I’m delighted that our 2007 Prom in the Park is being held in Carrickfergus and within a trumpet call of the town’s historic castle walls. This concert is one part of our commitment to providing large-scale events for local BBC audiences. Our Prom will include performances from internationally acclaimed musicians and will be ledby the Ulster Orchestra with support from the Carrickfergus Community Schools’ Choir.

All of this evening’s excitements will be shared with a wider audience on BBC Radio Ulster and through live programming across the UK on the BBC’s interactive digital television service. Concert-goers in Carrickfergus

will also have an opportunity to join with audiences in Glasgow, Swansea, Tees Valley, Hyde Park and the Royal Albert Hall as Last Night Proms’ festivities reach their climax in a fanfare of music and technological wizardry.

We’re grateful to NS&I and Carrickfergus Borough Council for their assistance and encouragement and hope that you have an enjoyable evening. Ultimately, events like this are only possible because of your support and the income which the BBC receives from the licence fee. Tonight’s spectacle, and everything that we do, couldn’t happen without you. Have a great time and I look forward to seeing you again sometime soon at other BBC recordings and events.

alderman david w hilditch mlamayor of carrickfergusOn behalf of Carrickfergus Borough Council, I’m pleased to welcome the BBC and all of you to Proms in the Park 2007. It’s one of the largest musical events that we’ve hosted in our area and the Council has worked hard to make it a success. This evening will involve local and internationally acclaimed musicians and will showcase their skills and our Borough before a huge BBC radio and television audience at home and around the rest of the UK.

We’re delighted to have brought an event of this scale and popularity to Carrickfergus and hope that you have an entertaining and memorable evening.

Our thanks are due to the BBC and other partner organisations for making it possible and to you, the Prom audience, for all your support. Enjoy the music-making and the beautiful setting of Carrickfergus Castle and harbour and don’t let it be too long before your next visit.
