Acid Rains. Explanation of the problem.

• For the first time the term "acid rain" was introduced in 1872

by the English scientist Robert Smithin the book "Air and rain: chemical climatology ". His attention was attracted by London-type smog in Manchester. Despite scientists of that time rejected the theory of the existence of acid rain, today nobody doubts that acid rain is one of the reasons for the loss of forests, crops and vegetation. In addition, acid rain destroy buildings and cultural monuments, pipelines, destroyed cars, lower soil fertility and could lead to seepage of toxic metals in the soil the aquifers. Effects of acid rain are seen in the United States, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Australia, the republics of the former Yugoslavia and in many countries around the globe.

What are the consequences of the acid rains?

• With the lapse of time, the concentration of high-toxic heavy metals ions (lead and cadmium, for example) in reservoirs will increases. This will be a negative impact on the environment. Most of these elements influence is pernicious. This influence become apparent through the generations by reaching the maximum level of concentration in the body and provokes heavy intoxication, and even mutations in some cases. Ions of heavy metals clog channels of liver and kidney, and the gradual accumulation of toxins leads to a poisoning of the body.

Page 4: [Challenge:Future] acid rain

• Consequences of the acid rain can be fateful for humans’ health. The main cause of this harmful influence is manganese, huge quantities of which found in rainwater.Signs of such intoxication characterized by large number of diseases. Furthermore, people usually don't pay attention immediately to this. Manganese may clog nerve cells’ channels, that cause severe fatigue, decreased efficiency, drowsiness, sudden weakness, dizziness, nausea.

• Acid rain contains another dangerous metal – this is aluminum, which can clusters for several years in human body. The aluminum can cause all kinds of NEUROLOGICAL DISEASES.

• The other acid rains’ impurities are not less dangerous, many of them can cause MALIGNANT TUMOURS.

• So DON’T go for a walk when it acid rain, and NEVER use this water.

What acid rains’ protection does exist?

• Basic methods of reducing atmospheric pollution are design and implementation of various sewage treatments and legal protection of the atmosphere.

• For the protection of cultural monuments and valuable architectural structures people use macromolecular coatings or Silicones, such as silicon acid esters derivatives. Coating with oil paint protects the metal with forming the stable to acid oxide film.

• All these measures represent a method of "output control" which rely on reducing the concentration of pollutants at the stage of their falling into the atmosphere.

• Restoration of normal water bodies’ acidity is possible with liming. Liming is not only reduces the acidity of the water, but also increases its buffer capacity, i.e. the resistance towards future acid deposition.

Our alternative

• We would like to offer a new view for acid rain problem – it is production of personal acid rain protection for everyday life.

• Our protection will be nice and comfortabe, but first of all it will protect humans health.

Page 7: [Challenge:Future] acid rain

Market situation of acid rain protection

• Despite the fact that there are numerous manufacturers of acid rain protection at the market the most of them are positioned more as watertight and preventing negative effects not only on acid rain, but also on erosion, frost/thaw, mosses, lichens and all other external influences.

• In fact there are no companies producing security facilities only for protection from acid rain. So our company will not have any competitors.

Target Group

• Audience of our produce are citizens from megalopolises and from industrial cities with large number of transport facilities and factories.

• The main problem associated with acid rain is its’ "mobility", because it can fall on the territory, distant from the place of his formation. As an example can be the situation in Central and Eastern Europe and Scandinavia. Sweden is suffering from clouds with acid rain, which drifted with wind from Eastern Europe, where standards for the emissions of harmful substances do not correspond with international requirements. That is why risk zone is vast enough for all of megalopolises.

Page 10: [Challenge:Future] acid rain

Positioning

• Individual protection from acid rains which worked out specially for citizens of megalopolises.

• Motive of consumption: protecting their health and health of their families

Design of identity

1. NamingAcid rains consist of sulfuric acid H2SO4 and nitric acid HNO3

Acid rain contains a high concentration of pollutants, chiefly sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide, released into the atmosphere by the burning of fossil fuels such as coal or oil

pH is potential of hydrogen; a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of a solution equal to the common logarithm of the reciprocal of the concentration of hydrogen ions in moles per cubic decimetre of solution. Pure water has a pH of 7, acid solutions have a pH less than 7, and alkaline solutions a pH greater than 7

All precipitations with pH less than 5,5 are acid.

Neutral pH = 7

Neutral pH is the most harmless for humans.

That is why our trade mark assume the name pHpH77

2. House colors

A pH indicator is a halochromic chemical compound that is added in small amounts to a solution so that the pH (acidity or basicity) of

the solution can be determined visually. Hence a pH indicator is a chemical detector for hydronium ions (H3O+) or hydrogen ions

(H+) in theArrhenius model. Normally, the indicator causes the colour of the solution to change depending on the pH. At 25°

Celsius, considered the standard temperature, the pH value of a neutral solution is 7.0. Solutions with a pH value below 7.0 are

considered acidic, whereas solutions with pH value above 7.0 are basic.

Universal indicator and Hydrion papers are blends of different indicators that exhibits several smooth color changes.

Hydrion is a trademarked name for a popular line of compound pH indicators, marketed by Micro Essential Laboratory, Inc. exhibiting a

series of color changes(typically producing a recognizably different color for each pH unit) over a range of pH values. Although

solutions are available, the most common forms of Hydrion are a series of papers impregnated with various mixtures of indicator

dyes. It is considered a "universal indicator".

over a very wide range of pH values. But there are some colours for extreme samples:

Acid— Red

Base— Blue

Neutral - Purple

That is why red, blue and purple was chosen as house colours

Advertising Campaign

Goals:2. To inform people about the problem and convince them of its’ importance

3. To explain during the campaign, that our produce is simple and effective solving of this problem

Page 16: [Challenge:Future] acid rain

Objectives of advertising campaign

• to leak information about the problem at local broadcast

• To place reels about the problem at city displays

• To hand round leaflets by promoters

• To place posters of our produce on bus-stop, at shops and at supermarkets
