It's groundhog month with spring just around the corner and, just like the movie, lots of North Canton Chamber events are returning for encores. On February 7 members and the community have the opportunity to sample items from 15 of our member restaurants at "Savor the Chamber" and March comes in like a lion with our first Quarterly Conversation Luncheon of the year at the Akron-Canton Airport on March 6 followed a few weeks later by our Annual Awards Luncheon on the 22nd. I encourage you to check out the details of all three of these im- portant events and add them to your calendar.
Board Happenings: Board Happenings: Board Happenings: Board Happenings: At the January Chamber board meeting Bill Strohmenger
was elected Chair, Cassie Tucker Vice Chair and Jeri Vespoli Treasurer, making up the Executive Board. The board also accepted the resignation of Norma Ca-pocci. On behalf of the board and our staff, I want to thank Norma for her hard work and support during her time with us. When we had a project, Norma was one of the first people volunteering to help and we'll miss her. The Chamber board will vote on a replacement for her position at its February meeting.

On February 27 the NSME Akron/Canton Chap- ter will spotlight several North Canton Chamber members at the 46th Annual Accent on Excellence event. Receiving "Achievements in Excellence" awards are Nancy Brodie of TL Worldwide Transportation, Juli Donlen of the Akron Rubber Ducks, Mike Gallina of AultCare, Cyndi Morrow of Koala Kruizers and Kelli Yoder of Mercy Medical Center. These five and 19 others will join Executive of the Year winner Jim Tressel, President of Youngstown State University, at the Tangier for a wonderful evening. As a previous recipient, along with my Massillon/WestStark counterpart Ted Herncane, I know it'll be memorable. If you are interested in attending, contact Sharon Reed at NSME at [email protected]. The Cleveland office of the U.S. Small Business Administration will participate in the February 12 8:30A-1P Small Business Showcase at the Akron Canton Airport. Breakout sessions will include SBA loan programs, government contracting certifications, and export oppor- tunities, along with a bankers’ room to connect with small business

In other SBA news, the U.S. Small Business Administration has appointed Robert Scott as the regional administrator for SBA's Great Lakes Region, covering Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Ohio companies could receive a signifi- cant reduction in their workers’ compen- sation premiums later this year. The Ohio BWC has asked its board of directors to reduce private employer premium rates by an average of 12% effective July 1. The board is scheduled to vote on the recom- mendation during its next regular meet-
ing scheduled for February 23.
