The ChamberLine 3 Message from the President……...

Dear Members:

March is such an enigmatic month. Known for its unpredictable and somewhat unruly weather, it

also brings the beginning of spring, daylight savings and days that grow notably longer.

March is also International Women’s Month – celebrating the history and advancement of women from

around the world. I think that this is of particular importance, as so many of our businesses are owned and

operated by women. From A (Leah at A.L. Stickle) to Z (Barb at WKZE), we have a wealth of business

women who help to make our Chamber a dynamic organization to be affiliated with!

With that in mind, I encourage everyone (guys too!) to identify a woman who has had a positive impact on

you personally or professionally and let her know. With all of the challenges that we embrace on a daily

basis, we often forget to take a moment to connect with those who have been influential in our lives.

Throughout the month, many local organizations will be celebrating International Women’s Month with art

exhibits, performances and forums. Next year, our Chamber will join in the celebration with our own special

event!

The Rhinebeck Area Chamber of Commerce has some great events occurring over the next few months;

check out this newsletter and the Chamber website to see all of the networking opportunities that we have in

store for you.

On March 15th, we’ll be celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day at The Painted Bistro (formerly O’Leary’s), where

everyone can claim to have just a wee bit of Irish in them. It looks to be a fun evening of camaraderie and

networking. We hope to see you there!

MEMBER MILESTONES

Time flies when you are having fun....

Celebrating her 21st year in business and the launch of her new website, Mari

Kirwood Bird owner of Mari Kirwood Design Associates has been design-

ing custom interiors in Rhinebeck and the Adirondack Park for some time

now.

Recently, the firm expanded and moved its showroom to 6378 Mill Street in

Rhinebeck just across from M&T bank. Expanding her showroom has

allowed Mari's clients to see so many design elements in one setting. The

showroom has fabulous furniture, fabrics, wallpapers, and accessories for the

home. Mari works one on one with her clients to ensure what they want for

their home is achieved. Her expansion has also invited her architect husband,

Michael Bird AIA to open another satellite office giving clients both

architectural and interior design consultations all in one convenient location.

Please feel free to visit the showroom and discuss your

design needs with Mari or Michael Bird. We are open

Monday-Friday 9:00-5:00 as often as possible. Some-

times a design need takes us all to the location.

It is always recommended to make appointment in

advance, but by all means...Her door is always

open.

Saturday and Sunday visits are by appointment only.

Dutchess County Fairgrounds This is Nicky! Nicky is our mascot for the new "Where is Nicky Now?" promotional campaign for the Fair. To get this started & create interest, we are seeking help from businesses in our surrounding community that would be willing to visibly house Nicky at their business location. When the contest begins, we will give hints to where he is but not his exact location. The first person to spot and then post their picture with Nicky and his exact whereabouts, will win a special prize. If you are a business and are interested in participating in this contest, please contact the office at (845) 876-4000.

Sinterklaas 2012 Planning Begins! The Sinterklaas Committee is already coming together to plan for

Rhinebeck’s 5th Annual Sinterklaas Celebration! Sinterklaas 2011 was a

great success and was named one of the Top 10 Holiday Celebrations in

the Northeast by AAA’s Car & Travel Magazine!

The great attendance was supportive of and beneficial to many businesses.

Our sincere thanks to all who participated in this town-wide event and we

hope we can count on Chamber members again this year to help us make

Sinterklaas 2012 even better.

There are two ways we would like to begin to partner with Chamber businesses:

1) Discount Pre-order of Sinterklaas Stars for your holiday Window Display. The signature

Sinterklaas Star has become the iconic image for this event. Some are even calling it the “brand” that

signals Sinterklaas Season! When visitors see the beautiful stars hanging in business windows in great

numbers, they ask: “What do all the stars mean?” Then, merchants and businesses have the opportunity

to invite customers and clients back to Rhinebeck to enjoy our unique holiday spectacular and, again,

think of Rhinebeck as a perfect place to stay, eat, shop, own a business or make a home.

Ordinarily, we sell the stars for $10 (in gift packaging with LED light), but we can offer you just the star

(no light, no packaging) for only $5. We would love to see a galaxy of stars in the Rhinebeck windows,

in business offices and throughout town to show how our town comes together to celebrate our talent,

our pride and our community. We will also be taking pre-orders of gift-packaged stars for $10 each.

In April, we will make order forms available to you to facilitate easy ordering.

2) Feedback! If you have not yet done so, please respond to our post-

Sinterklaas 2011 survey (originally sent by email in December). We

really want to know how Sinterklaas was for you and what we might do

to work together to make it even better this year.

Please go to this link and fill out the SHORT form:
