Delta Kappa Epsilon Omega Mu Chapter

Spring is in the air, and the gentlemen of Omega Mu proudly present another newsletter to our friends and supporters. It has already been an eventful semester with much more to come. Omega Mu has always had a passion for sports and has succeeded frequently in intramurals on campus. This semester we have competed in indoor soccer, basketball, handball, ultimate frisbee, sand volleyball, and softball. We made playoffs in all of them and just finished in the Elite 8 for B league basketball (team pictured above).

In February the Omega Mu chapter pinned 10 promising gentlemen as pledges. Joel Barrera, Ryan Stout, Tejasv Bhardwaj, Anthony Asher, Kevin Fabian, Austin Eggleston, Rushabh Shah, Bradly Rowan, Evan Echenrode, and Lydon Chamley (pictured above, left to right) will be initiated in the coming weeks if they complete their pledgeship successfully and prove themselves to hold and value the objects of our fraternity. Newly elected pledge educator Philip Woods is working diligently to instruct them on the objects and core beliefs of Delta Kappa Epsilon. In particular, they will learn brotherhood through their activities with the chapter. They are still working on a pledge class project for the chapter, the details of which will be featured in the following newsletter.

The chapter held our first formal February 28th at Brooklyn’s in downtown Stillwater. This event was a great opportunity for the chapter to reward its members’ hard work over the past three years. Several alumni were able to return to Stillwater for the event, which presented a perfect opportunity for the chapter to focus on its members and their successes.

Greek Town Grill Down to support Make Promises Happen

Preparations for Greek Town Grill Down, our chapter’s philanthropy and largest event, are well under way. The members of Omega Mu are particularly enthusiastic about making a lasting impression and difference in the community with this philanthropy. Last year we raised over $6,000 for the memorial fund of Gamma Phi Beta for a member who tragically passed away. We are proud of this accomplishment and thankful for the opportunity to help our friends in need. This year we plan to have at least 12 teams competing in our grilling competition with local sponsors and live music so that we can raise even more money for this year’s philanthropy, Make Promises Happen. Make Promises Happen is a charity, which provides outdoor activities and events for persons with special needs. Our vice president Daniel Lyon has volunteered with them multiple times, and many other members plan to volunteer for a weekend this semester. We chose this charity because it stands out as really making a difference in our community. We want to show what Delta Kappa Epsilon means to us: brotherhood, support for those around us, and personal growth through selflessness and identity nourishment. By supporting this charity we hope to maintain a positive image of the Greek community, particularly in Oklahoma, and demonstrate our commitment to service, individuality, and scholarship.

Our chapter influence is spreading even to grandparents. Member Jacob Ketring’s grandmother gave some Pistols Firin’ while proudly sporting ΔK E.

Grandma’s Support

Community Service Member Spotlight Daniel (pictured with his girlfriend to the left) was elected to Vice

President at the end of last semester, and he hit the ground running. His passion for the chapter and everything he does is obvious. He has put in a great deal of time increasing communications between officers and organizing members moving into our two houses in the fall. He has been regularly volunteering for Make Promises Happen, and it is his planning that allowed us to support them with Greek Town Grill Down this April. This summer he plans to work at OSU for the College of Education and take classes. He will graduate in May of 2016 to teach high school biology.
