OBJECTIVES
SOAS University of London has the longest tradition of teaching Tamil within the UK. The school was founded in 1916 with 20 languages in its initial offering, and Tamil being one among them.
Insufficient funds forced SOAS to withdraw Tamil Courses from its offering.
SOAS being the publicly funded institution, Tamils have the greatest responsibility of reinstating Tamil Studies at SOAS, and make it sustainable through a long-term endowment of £10m.
This charity walk is very important for the Global Tamil diaspora to get involved in the fundraising efforts.

WALK AT YOUR COMFORT
3
The walk day is 26th September 2021.
This is a distributed walk, which means you can walk on your garden, on your street, your local park or any place of your interest.
You can also form a group and walk together at your convenient place respecting government guidance.
If you have a prior appointment on the walk day, you can plan to complete it before that.
Recommended walking distance is 5 km (3.1 miles) or choose a target according to your interest and health conditions.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED
4
Organisations can involve their members for this walk and each one of them will get a fundraising page from SOAS. The donations raised by the members will be added to the organisation’s total.
For example, if an organisation involves 5 fundraising walkers, and each raise £500 towards the cause, then the total of £2500 will be added into the organisations fundraising page. Many schools, charity organisations, and temples are already fundraising for Tamil Studies at SOAS University of London
Individuals
A fundraising page will be created by SOAS at https://soas.hubbub.net for those willing to walk, and all donations can be obtained through this page. No cash handling.
