    Strategy #5 of Ocean County College’s Strategies for Success 2015-2020, is to “create a highly effective, challenging, supportive, and sustainable work environment.” In pursuit of this goal, the college is investing substantial resources in professional development and training programs for all employees. The goal is to build an employee base with a mix of talents that are needed to become a national leader in community college education.     PurchasingAudience: Staff involved in purchase decision making or processing online purchase requisitions.Delivery: Classroom or employee’s workstation.This training will review the purchasing process and related procedures.     Arts and Humanities Adjunct WebEx SeriesThe Arts and Humanities Adjunct WebEx meetings are designed to provide professional development opportunities for adjunct faculty with particular regard to Arts and Humanities disciplines. While the live meetings are invitation-only, recordings of the meetings and the pedagogical resources discussed are available as a module under the Center for Instructional Empowerment. Presentation topics include reaching the English-Language Learner, engaging students in the classroom and on campus, utilizing technological tools such as the Peer Review feature on Canvas, and developing curriculum that reflects current societal issues and events, among others. These virtual meetings allow for adjunct faculty to highlight their expertise and facilitate pedagogical discussion. The CIE is accessible to faculty on campus through Canvas or by visiting go.ocean.edu/cie. The “Arts and Humanities School Content” module houses recordings of the meetings, presentation material, and discussion board.     CARE ReportingAudience: All employees • Class size limited to 15 participantsIn September 2018, OCC implemented an online CARE reporting system, designed to address concerns about students’ behavior, in-class activities, attendance, concerning issues, writings, health concerns, and other issues impacting safety and students’ academic success. CARE reports must be completed promptly and with appropriate information.     Leadership Academy

    Ocean County College’s Leadership Academy is a component of the “Strategies for Success 2015-2020” Strategic Plan.

    The year-long program is intended to allow selected participants to learn about, discuss, and practice leadership using a variety of methods. The program will also provide comprehensive feedback in the form of a 360-degree review and facilitated self-assessment through one-on-one coaching.

    If you are a full-time Administrative employee with division or department responsibility (generally defined as Director or above) or an Administrative employee or faculty member who serves in leadership roles at OCC; or have served in leadership roles in past employment, you are eligible to apply for the program.

    A broadcast message will be sent when applications are being accepted for the next cohort.

    This workshop equips participants with OCC’s vision for a culture of service excellence. It provides tools to assist each person in their pursuit of excellent service delivery and more positive student experience.Workshop attendees will explore techniques and approaches to providing excellent customer service while learning new ways to problem-solve. Looking at generational differences, the role of ethical and civil behavior within our campus community, and non-verbal and verbal communication skills, participants will come away with more tools to effectively deal with student issues and behaviors and recognize the signs of a student in trouble.

    First Things First: The Importance of a Civil Environment and Ethical Conduct at Ocean County CollegeAudience: For employees who attended The Ocean Way training before August 2019 Class size limited to 25 participants. Employees will learn why OCC regards a civil working and learning environment and ethical conduct in all matters as foundational to OCC’s success. The college’s Civility Statement, Code of Ethics (Policy #3005), Trustee Code of Ethics (Policy #1450), and Student Code of Conduct (Policy #5247) will be reviewed and discussed. Avenues for resolving or reporting instances of uncivil or unethical behaviors will be presented. At the end of this session, each employee should understand their role in upholding these two fundamental institutional tenants.

    CARE Reporting Audience: General • Class size limited to 15 participantsIn September 2018, OCC implemented an online CARE reporting system, designed to address concerns about students’ behavior, in-class activities, attendance, concerning issues, writings, health concerns, and other issues impacting safety and students’ academic success. CARE reports must be completed promptly and with appropriate information. This workshop will review how to write a CARE report, when to submit a report, and what happens after submission.

Various studies call them different things: critical employability skills, soft skills, or transferrable skills. Regardless of the name, these skills are critical for workplace success. Eight of the most commonly identified skills are: Being a Productive Team Member, Flexibility, Problem Solving, Resourcefulness, Giving and Receiving Feedback, Self-Confidence, Creative Thinking, and Emotional Intelligence.
