RMA Summary
Avitech maintains a high level of software RMA using the homogenous Software Development V model,
Avitech took an installed base of 6 large operational systems worldwide with a sum of 50 sites and over 400 user working places over 36 months for the RMA evaluation.
Avitech also collected data of hotline calls of last 4 years shows an average of 7 minor software / parameter / SW service related calls per system per year. Average downtime was less then half an hour.
The data collected shows SW availability of approx 99.99912%.

User Terminals AftnStation – new possibilities
1.Control, upgrade and admin of remote AFTN workstations by system supervisors using AFTN messages..
2.Possible to distribute binary files via the AFTN network for distributing all kinds of binary and XML data.
3.Possible for administrators to remotely police AFTN workstations for sanity checks, viruses, illegal programs or user activities etc.
4.Provides simple interfacing tool for 3rd party applications using the standard AFTN protocol
5.Provide sophisticated AFTN message processing for Flight Plan processing, Traffic Lists for instance.

Conclusions – Migration to AMHS
Careful planning with clear objectives and time plan is essential, Coordinated transition plan for gateways: National and International Early involvement and training of users/operators is very important Early interoperability plans with international partners Reduce Interoperability testing – use the tester Need more operational procedures to be developed by ANSPs/CAAs AMHS is a reality and has been operational since 1996 AMHS implementation should be much further ahead than it is. ATN is ready for delivery using ISO or IPS in dual stack environment TP4/CLNP ISO for the future is very limited. AFTN lives on for the foreseeable future.
