Children worked a lot in the XIX century. They worked for factories, producing weapon or for mines, digging coal. Children worked as many hours as adults did, nearly 14-18 hours per day. Children got less money for their job.
There where a lot of rules for children. They were forbidden to look out of the window or play during their lunch breaks.
A lot of workers were recruited in the job homes. Children were taught how to work at factories. But they did not get any salary and clothes.
It was necessary to involve children to productive work.Each child had to feel a necessary to part of an adults society.
Children often worked up to 16 hours per day, sometimes even at night. On Sundays they cleaned their machines. Children ate the cheapest food and it was of bad quality. Some children tried to run away from factories. If the child was suspected in such intention, he had irons on his feet. A lot of them died.
Hard work often caused damage to children’s health. They did not get simple education. If a child was lucky and he went to primary school, it was his only chance to relax.
