SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAM – SUMMER 2020 We’re looking forward to a fun-filled summer at the Center! At the UWM Children’s Learning Center, children enjoy a nice blend of structured and unstructured time. The teachers plan a variety of engaging and fun learning experiences (because after all, children do not stop learning when school is out). They can relax while learning arts and crafts, challenge themselves with hands-on science and math activities and exercise their bodies in our indoor gym and on the playground. Children also have plenty of time to play, which helps them create lasting relationships with new and old friends. We have revamped some aspects of the school-age program to focus on child-centered and developmentally-appropriate programming. Children will be placed in classrooms by the grade they are completing in school this spring. Classroom and teacher assignments for the summer may be different than those during the academic year. Below is a general outline of programming available for each age group. A field trip schedule is also included. SUMMER SESSIONS: Early Week: May 18-22 Session A: week 1: May 26-29 week 2: June 1-5 Session B: week 1: June 8-12 week 2: June 15-19 Session C: week 1: June 22-26 week 2: June 29—July 3 Session D: week 1: July 6-10 week 2: July 13-17 Session E: week 1: July 20-24 week 2: July 27-31 Session F: week 1: August 3-7 week 2: August 10-14 Please note that summer ends on August 14. In the past we have allowed summer-only families to enroll for care during ‘Early Fall,’ but we are no longer able to provide this service due to significant staffing constraints & policies. K3 Children (For children who have completed a public school K3 program) FIELD TRIPS: K3 children will take 2-3 field trips during the summer along with children their age in our preschool programs. Favorite places to visit are a strawberry field to pick fresh berries and a farm where children can see and touch animals. Parents will be given advance notice of dates and trip details. WATER FUN: K3 children will not swim weekly at the Klotsche pool, but will get wet and have fun doing other water activities on our play yards. They will use sprinklers, spray bottles and wet sponges and play games with water. CONNECT WITH NATURE: We’re going to have a special focus on nature activities. Nature programming will be provided by Center staff and by nature educators/naturalists from the Urban Ecology Center and Retzer Nature Center. Activities will take place at the Center and in Downer Woods. SCHOOL-AGE PROGRAM – SUMMER 2020

We’re looking forward to a fun-filled summer at the Center!

Classroom and teacher assignments for the summer may be different than those during the academic year. to children enrolled in the Center’s fall after-school program. In the past we have allowed summer-only families to enroll for care during ‘Early Fall,’
