SCHOOL NEWS From Mr. Lucas Stangler, Principal
St. Jude Family,
As my first year as the Principal of St. Jude comes to an end I am filled with a variety of emotions, for a variety of reasons. One of the most overwhelming emotions I feel is gratitude. Thank you to all of the families of St. Jude that have welcomed me, volunteered at school, and worked with your
children at home to reinforce what we are doing at school. Thank you to this incredible staff! You have all worked tirelessly to create a rich, welcoming, and safe environment in which our students can learn and grow in the knowledge, truth and love of Christ. Most importantly, thank you to the students. You are the reason I am excited to wake up every morning and come to work. Watching all of you grow this year has given more to me than I have given to you. I hope everyone has a blessed, fun, and safe summer!
God bless!

WORD OF LIFE “To women with an unplanned pregnancy, Maya says, ‘This is survivable. Have hope.’” —USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, “Accompanying Expectant Mothers Considering Adoption”
10TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Have you ever felt judged by your family? St. John Paul II noted that the family "is the cradle of life and love" (On the Lay Members of Christ's Faithful, 40). Yet unmet expectations and divergent priorities can cause tension in even the most loving family situations. This is true for us, and it was true for Jesus! In today's Gospel, Jesus has returned home to Nazareth. A large crowd gathered, and Jesus finds himself facing stiff opposition from his family. This was likely Jesus' large, extended family. The Semitic language has no specific words for extended relatives, so everyone is "brother" or "sister." The entire clan has gotten wind of Jesus' preaching, and they are not amused. "They set out to seize him, for they said, 'He is out of his mind.'" To make matters worse, the religious authorities even accuse Jesus of being possessed by a demon. It's a mess by any standards. The family's perspective is perhaps understandable. In Jewish culture, teachers and scribes underwent intensive schooling and apprenticeships, none of which Jesus had done. The family knew Jesus the carpenter, not Jesus the rabbi. For them, Jesus' bold preaching threatened the reputation of their family! Jesus' words to his family can seem controversial. "Who are my mother and my brothers?" Yet Jesus knows what he is about. He has always known he would be about the business of his Heavenly Father. And what is that business? It is the business of the new covenant and the Kingdom of God. In this Kingdom, we are all adopted sons and daughters of the King. Jesus begins, even now, to expand the perspective of his listeners. Being welcomed into this family does not depend on our families of birth or ethnic origin, but a wholehearted commitment to "do the will of God."
PROTECTING GOD'S CHILDREN
The Diocese of Joliet has a vigorous program to train those who work with our children called Protecting God's Children. The safety and protection of children against any form of abuse is of the highest priority for us. All coaches, volunteers, and employees who work with the children of St. Jude Parish are required to attend a Protecting God's Children Seminar and submit to a background check. Compliance prior to participating is mandatory per the Diocese of Joliet. If you plan to be a volunteer during the school year or would like more information, please contact Sue Serra at [email protected], Subject: St. Jude or (815)514-
0375, or contact Jack Roche at [email protected], Subject: St. Jude or (815)609-5858.
Child & Youth Protection — Reporting Sexual Abuse
Anyone with reason to believe that a child has been abused or is being abused should report their suspicions to civil authorities. Contact: Illinois Department of Children and Family Services at 1-800-25ABUSE (1-800-
252-2873) or the local police.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, This year, Father’s Day is celebrated on June 17. There will be a special collection taken at Masses on June 16-17 to care for our infirmed and senior priests. The Fund for Diocesan Infirmed and Elderly Priests is a special way for the people of the Diocese of Joliet to express their concern for the welfare of those who have dedicated their lives in service to our pastoral care. The money in this fund goes toward priests who need help with extraordinary medical expenses or suffer a catastrophic illness. It also provides for the care of the St. John Vianney Villa, home to several senior priests in the Diocese of Joliet. Prayerfully consider making a donation to help our aged and sick priests as an expression of appreciation for all they have done in exemplifying Christ’s mercy, through their spiritual guidance and celebration of the sacraments. On behalf of all the active and senior priests of the diocese, I am grateful for your prayers and for your generous support of the Father’s Day Collection for our aged and infirm diocesan priests. Please be assured of my prayers for you. Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon
