INTRODUCTION

Clean Power Asia, now the region’s premier platform to discuss the latest renewable and cleaner fossil power developments, brings together the entire value-chain involved in Asian clean power projects. The future of renewable and clean energy is now in the developing world! Asian countries are overtaking developed ones in terms of spending on renewable and cleaner fossil power projects. Indonesia has announced a master plan for the development of renewable energy resources and set a target for renewables to represent 25% of total energy consumption in 2025. Malaysia is hoping that the recently launched National Renewable Energy Policy Plan will help the country hit its targets and the new feed-in-tariffs that recently came into effect will certainly help achieving those targets. Thailand launched its 15-year Renewable Energy Development plan last year and aims to increase renewable energy from 6.4% to 20% in 2022.

In addition, the fall in equipment costs and growing appetite for clean technology has resulted in increased policy support measures and increased investment in cleaner fossil power investments. Thailand is involved in clean coal pilot projects, Indonesia is building its fi rst ultra supercritical coal fi red power plant. TNB Malaysia has increased its operational effi ciency by upgrading 6 existing plants. Successful CO2 sequestration achievements are made and much effort is being made in power plant optimisation and effi ciency increase resulting in tremendous CO2 emission reduction results.

Following our hugely successful inaugural Clean Power Asia event in June 2011, attended by 430 power industry stakeholders, we are excited to present the latest clean energy initiatives at Clean Power Asia 2012, Bali International Convention Centre, May 14-16. The event will again present innovative approaches in renewable energy projects and new cleaner fossil power initiatives and achievements. You can also adapt the conference agenda to your area of interest with streamed sessions on:• Clean power policy, strategy and fi nance• Renewable power (solar, wind, hydro, bio and geothermal)• Next-Gen fossil power

In addition, the Clean Power Asia exhibition will provide a great opportunity for industry professionals to explore new clean power industry products and technologies and will offer you great networking opportunities.

We look forward to meeting you in Bali this May!

As offi cial endorser the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia welcomes the regional power industry stakeholders to Clean Power Asia 2012 in Bali this 14-16 May.

Indonesia has a clear target to optimise its energy mix and to improve the renewable energy portion to 25% by 2025. In order to achieve its renewable energy targets and improve the mix of new renewable energy, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is also exploring other renewable energy sources, in addition to geothermal, including hydroelectric, solar and bioenergy as a way to increase energy security in Indonesia. Indonesia’s Clean Energy Initiative, an integrated effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels burning, is intended to not only meet national emission reduction targets, but also to sustain Indonesia’s national energy security. Clean Power Asia will present you with the latest clean power policy updates from Indonesia.

As the host utility of Clean Power Asia 2012, PT PLN (Persero) is looking forward to welcoming the Asian and international power utility industry to Bali this 14-16 May. Supportive policy frameworks to attract private sector investment are put in place and rapidly improving economics of renewable

energy technologies make it more interesting to invest in renewable energy. In addition, there is an increased emphasis on improving the effi ciency of non-renewable, fossil power resources. Lower emission levels by more cost-effective and well-proven emission control technologies are to be considered. With rapidly depleting fossil energy resources and the fast pace of technology evolution, Clean Power Asia is a timely event to provide new insights into the steps the Asian power industry should take to achieve the best and most effi cient portfolio of power generation.

HAVE A LOOK AT SOME OF THE OVERWHELMING REACTIONS:

The fi rst-day morning session that I attended was an eye-opener on what other countries are doing in the area of clean energy development and regulation.

Ir. Ahmad Fauzi Hasan, CEO,Energy Commission, Malaysia

My view from the conference is: clean power, global warming, energy effi ciency, energy harmonization, energy reliability and high cost of energy will be national, regional and international concerned issue.

Somboon Arayaskul, Deputy Governor,EGAT, Thailand

The conference provided valuable insights into the developments of clean energy sector in the South East Asia region both on a theoretical and practical level which was very interesting for carbon market professionals in my view.
