4 Year Old Female, Black/White
Hello, I’m Boots the beautiful, with my long black and white coat and white whiskers. Look at my plume tail! Fabulous! I
am a total love bug, a real sweetie. Before I lived with a bunch of dogs who I really did not care for, so now I am looking for a home without dogs. That would be perfect for me. I’m snuggly and happy to be held. I’ll purr and rub and roll around for you. You’ll like petting my soft fur. To be honest, I’m lonesome right now, so I’m more than ready to go home with you. Especially if
you have some nice toys for this young lady to play with.
Hi there, I'm Cyanna, a beautiful tortoiseshell puss with big yellow eyes. I have a lot of orange in my coat. I like to have
my cheeks and chin petted, but not so much my back. I enjoy people and may kiss you. In my former home I had problems with the resident cat. I lived with young children. I feel a little
nervous here in the shelter, especially if its noisy. I'll need a home with patient and understanding folks who will give me
some time to adjust. Then I'll be my usual friendly self.

PRAYER TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN (Never known to fail). Oh, most beautiful flower of Mt. Carmel, fruitful vine splendor of Heaven, Blessed Mother of the Son of God, Immaculate Virgin, assist me in my necessity. Oh, Star of the Sea, help me and show me, herein you are my mother. Oh, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven and Earth, I humbly beseech you from the bottom of my heart to answer me in this necessity. There are none that can withstand your power. Oh, show me herein you are my mother. Oh, Mary con- ceived without sin, pray for us who have recourse to thee (3x). Holy Mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Sweet mother, I place this cause in your hands (3x). Holy Spirit, you who solve all problems, light all roads so that I can attain my goal, you who gave me the divine gift to forgive and forget all evil against me and that in all instances in my life you are with me, I want in this short prayer to thank you for all things as you confirm once again that I never want to be separated from you in eternal glory. Thank you for your mercy towards me and mine. The person must say this prayer 3 consecutive days, after 3 days the request will be granted. This prayer must be pub- lished after the favor is granted. Favor granted. R.F.D.

Did You Know? According to the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s annual “Hot Wheels” list of the 10 most stolen vehicles in the United States, the 1994 Honda Accord was the most stolen vehicle of 2011. The NICB examines vehicle theft data submitted by law enforcement to the National Crime Information Center. While the 1994 Accord was a hot item among thieves, 2011 saw a continued decline of vehicle theft overall. Crime statistics from the Federal Bureau of Investigations indi-cated a 3.3 percent decline in vehicle theft from 2010. In fact, 2011 saw the fewest vehicle thefts since 1967. But the NICBwarns that there is a growing trend that illustrates an increase in the theft of late model vehicles, despite the development of more sophisticated anti-theft technology. That’s due, the NICB suggests, to professional thieves who can now figure out the key codes for specific vehicles and have a replacement key made in a matter of days. NICB president and CEOJoe Wehrle indicated that his organization was aware of 300 such thefts in just the first three months of 2012.

Safety Not Just Drivers’ ResponsibilitySafety should be a top priority for everyone sharing the road, including cyclists, drivers and pedestrians. The following are a few tips each of those groups of travelers can em-ploy to ensure the roads stay safe for everyone.Cyclists* Bicyclists must follow the same traffic rules as auto-mobile drivers. Stop for red lights and stop signs, signal lane changes or turns, and drive on the correct side of the road.* Watch out for parked cars. Oftentimes, drivers exit their vehicles and do not check for oncoming traffic or cyclists. You can be hit by a swinging car door.* Make yourself as notice-able as possible. This could include using a light or horn
on the bike to signal your presence to drivers.* Always wear a helmet and other applicable safety equipment.* Maintain your bike so that it is safe to ride. * Do not carry others on your bike (such as a friend or a child) if it is not designed to do so. Riding on the handlebars or behind the cyclist can be dangerous.* Avoid the use of ear buds or headphones while cycling. You want all of your senses to be available to avoid accidents.* Cycle out of the way of drivers’ blind spots so you’ll be more visible.* Do not ride your bike on the sidewalk where you could injure pedestrians.Drivers* Be aware that you could be sharing the road with pedestrians, cyclists or motorcycle riders.* Use caution when making turns or at busy intersections -- pe-destrians could be crossing.* Always yield the right of way to pedestrians.* Pay attention to the road and limit distractions inside the ve-
hicle. This includes keeping the radio tuned low so that you can hear sounds outside of the car.* Use caution when entering or exiting your parked vehicle.* Use caution in and around bus stops or other points of mass transit.* Regularly check the side of the road for pedestrians, espe-cially in areas where there are no sidewalks. With drivers, pedestrians and bicyclists working in concert, ac-cidents can be reduced.Pedestrians* Always use sidewalks and crosswalks when available. If no sidewalk is present, be sure to walk against the direction of traffic.* Use traffic signals as your guide. However, make sure all traf-fic has stopped before crossing the road or stepping off of the sidewalk.* Keep control of pets when walking on a leash, so you’re not pulled out into traffic.* Use caution at bus stops. Many injuries occur from pedestri-ans running to catch a bus or stepping out into traffic after ex-
iting a bus. Remember, there will be another bus behind the one you’re chasing and safety is more important.* Wear brightly colored or reflective clothing if walking at night.* Do not cross highways or interstates on foot.

Pete Bardunias, President/CEO, the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County
Community Development Comes Alive in 2013
The Chamber of Southern Saratoga County’s Com-munity Development Program isn’t even a year old yet and is already winning awards. The Historic Lock 19 Project corporate partners will accept a “GOBY” award from the Stakeholders Regional Volunteer Center at the GE Theatre in Schenectady on March 5. The program, still in its infancy, is already turning heads. This is good news for Ballston Spa, Charlton, Me-chanicville, Vischer Ferry and Waterford, because the Chamber’s Strategic Plan calls for the Program to come to these locales in 2013. This is very much a work in progress, so I don’t want to raise expectations too far. The fact remains that wherever we can get a large number of volunteers, students, concerned businesspeople and government interests to join forces the end result should be good for the community. The Chamber’s Education and Business Partnership Committee is meeting regu-larly, making plans for the work to be done at the Brookside Museum in Ballston Spa. This venerable institution needs some repairs and a group of intrepid volun-teers is going to assemble to help out. At the same time, a new history project is getting underway which will create an exhibit on the transformation of Saratoga County’s population as people from all over the world come here to build the
nanotechnology revolution. The committee is working dili-gently to finalize plans, so keep an eye on this column for future updates. You can also contact our offices at the number below to register as a volunteer. Plans also call for a series of meetings in the town of Charlton to discuss ways to improve the local business cli-mate. If your business is located in Charlton, please partici-pate and share your thoughts. To register for the meeting series (dates to be determined) or as a volunteer for the Brookside project, please call me at 518-371-7748 or email [email protected] .
