Climb Kilimanjaro

for Kids

2013-2014

The roof of Africa, Mount Kilimanjaro is the

highest free-standing mountain in the world.

Rising from the East African plains, the tallest

point of the mountain, Uhuru Peak, stands at

a frosty 5,895m. From here you can gaze

down on the clouds, and up at acres of blue

sky.

Nothing can match the feeling of watching the

sun rise over the African plains from the

summit, and is a must for anyone with a sense

of adventure!

The trek takes you 6 days and you will be

walking through a different environment each

day from mountain forest to alpine desert!

At Childreach International we know that

fundraising can seem challenging, but as the

largest UK provider of student Challenge Events

we have the experience to help you reach your

fundraising target. You will have an experienced

Team Leader behind you as well as our award

winning fundraising team there to offer support!

Throughout the year leading up to your

departure, we will make every effort to

prepare you and help you reach your target. Your

Team Leader will spend their time organising

group socials and fundraising events to get you

on your feet. In addition to this, after signing up

you will need to attend the group inaugural

meeting. Your Student Fundraising Manager will

attend this session and take you through every

aspect of the trip, from fundraising to packing

your bag!

We are a UK registered charity working at the grassroots level in partnership with local

communities in the developing world. We improve children’s access to healthcare, education

and child rights and protection to help them unlock their potential. We currently have

projects in India, Morocco, Nepal, Tanzania and the UK with over 600,000

beneficiaries to date. We believe that all children have the right to:

Enough food, clean water and shelter

A good education and a reliable health service

Live without fear of abuse/violence

We are able to do this through sustainable funding, obtained with the help of people like you.

We believe that if you dedicate your time, energy and enthusiasm towards our cause then we

should give you something life-changing and memorable in return. This is where our

Challenge Events fit in!

“Reaching the summit of Kilimanjaro is one of the greatest achievements of

my life and I got to meet some great people along the way. It feels amazing to

know what a difference the money we raised will make for the schools in the

area. If you get a chance to do it, don't hesitate.”

Jamie Boult, CK4K Edinburgh participant, 2013

No! Kilimanjaro is one of the few great mountains

in the world where it is possible to reach the

summit without any mountaineering skills.

Training is recommended, but the vast majority of

the ascent is walking, with a short scramble on

the final section leading to the summit.

Experienced guides will lead you all the way and

porters will be on hand to help with your bags.

You’ll need a good pair of boots, warm clothes

and a lot of determination. Once you’ve got that,

you’ll be on the summit in no time!

Do I need to be an

experienced mountaineer?

Days 10-15

Time to travel This is your time to explore. Most people organise a safari in

the hope of seeing the Big Five and take trips down to the

bright white beaches of Zanzibar where you can go on

excursions, do some fishing or just sit back and relax.

You will return back to the UK on day 16.

If you do not wish to travel then you are able to book your

own flights at a reduced fundraising target.
