Shoe Drive Update We have filled 60 bags with shoes so far. Our minimum goal is 100. Let’s keep those shoes coming in!

We’re going “Wild for Jesus” in our summer-long Wednesday night VBS! Rising K-6th will meet every Wednesday, June-August (except July 3rd) from 6:50-7:50PM in the Annex. Regular classes for younger ages and teens will still meet. Adults will be in the auditorium. NEEDED: individuals or couples willing to lead crafts or games! You can

The gospel is consistent with reason and logic. It is possible to persuade both ourselves and other people to believe the gospel because it is a reason-based appeal to the mind. Certainly the idea of being loved by God appeals to the heart. So does the concept of the amazing sacrifice that God is willing to make because of his love. These move the heart powerfully once they are grasped by the mind, but the beginning of the gospel’s work on us is understand-ing, not feeling. The most disastrous mistakes that we make are mistake of the mind and of bad reasoning. It is certainly possible to make a muck of our lives because we fail to control our appetites or because we are impulsive. A sinful choice driven by desire, wrath, lust or fear can bring us close to ruin and cause pain that is difficult to bear. As long as our minds remain sound, however, we will turn to God in these awful seasons and survive them. In order to enter places from which we cannot or will not return requires an error of the mind. This its why Satan’s most dreadful attacks are not at the level of temptation to bad behavior, but temptation to bad understanding and bad thinking. He will kill you with impulsiveness if he can, but he would prefer to get you to believe things that are distorted and evil. Bad belief will drive bad behaviors while making us think they are good and turn us into advocates for what is evil. If we believe, for instance, that the material world is more real than the spiritual world, we will invest our energies here and ignore the greater reality. If we believe that God is a private matter, we will keep his love to ourselves. If we believe that God is bad or dangerous, or that he hates us because of our sins, we will keep our distance from the one who is our salvation. The gospel comes to us to destroy these weak and polluted thoughts. It tells us about the truth of God’s great reality that holds together everything that exists - he is more real, not less. It tells us of his universal claims on creation and on everyone who exists. It tells us that God is amazingly good, so much better than we think he is. It corrects every false philosophy and thought, and over-comes every lie. The gospel definitely appeals to the heart, and if you can learn of the gospel without being emotionally moved, then you are very hard-hearted indeed. But we must never lose sight of the truth that the gospel is Truth, and truth is understood and believed in the mind. —Ethan Brown
