According to the 2008 US Census Bureau, 86% of firms inIllinois employ less than 20 employees. In these firms, responsibilities for the Human Resources function are often assigned to someone who is the business office manager, has done payroll or is “good with people.” The impact of an individual who hasn’t been properly trained in handling Human Resources issues is difficult to measure, but could potentially include increased staff turnover, legal missteps, lowered employee morale, improperly contested worker’s compensation or unemployment claims, and decreased customer satisfaction-all affecting employee productivity, customer loyalty, and company profits.
Every two months, the Chamber surveys its members on a topic of local relevance. Results of the
survey are communicated to Chamber members via this “Viewpoints” section.

MORNING SESSION: 8:30 TO 11:30 A.M.Part 1: Prospecting and Account DevelopmentAt the completion of the session, participants will be able to capitalize on referrals, references and testimontals, create a referral network of champions who bring in business and further develop existing accounts and increase customer loyalty.
Part 2: Developing Rapport and Interest in your ProductBuilding rapport is a critical step on every sales call, whether for a new prospect or a long-time client. This session will teach participants to determine value from a buyer’s point of view, employ three strategies to make buyers eager to talk and establish immediate credibility to build alignment with buyers.
AFTERNOON SESSION: 1:30 TO 4:30 P.M.Part 1: Responding to ObjectionsObjections are a natural part of selling. But there is a proven process to overcoming these protests. In this session, participants will learn to apply a win-win process to resolve objections, identify points of agreement to lower buyer resistance and respond to the six most common objections with confidence.
Part 2: Gaining CommitmentAs you move toward the end of the sales process, it becomes more important to create a sense or urgency for the buyer and find a natural way to ask for the commitment. At the completion of this session, participants will be able to evaluate buyer perspectives to move the sale forward, engage the prospect’s emotions in the buying process and practice six methods to ask for the sale with confidence.

Engelbrecht Grills was again honored as the official grill Bobby Flay will use on his Food Network show, “Bobby Flay’s BBQ Addiction.” Like last season, Flay will be cooking on an Engelbrecht Grills Original Braten 1000 series grill. Flay will also be creating a corrresponding cookbook using his Engelbrecht Grill.
Downtown Champaign is the backdrop for Friday Night LIVE, a free street-side performance series open to the general public. Friday Night Live is presented by BankChampaign, with support from 40 North (Champaign County Arts Council), Champaign Center Partnership and Illini Radio Group. Friday Night Live will be held every Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., running through September 21. Performances will be held at the intersections of Neil and Church, Neil and Park, and Walnut and Chester in Downtown Champaign.

The Provena Covenant Medical Center Foundation recently announced the recipients of the Fund to Accelerate Innovation Towards Healing and Hope (FAITH2), a unique community impact endowment program that just completed its first funding cycle. The Foundation’s FAITH2 program is awarding more than $65,000 to six local agencies for programs that impact identified and demonstrated community health needs related to access to care and access to healthy food, counseling, and services.
