Use of these products and services will provide building owners and professionals with liability protection in the unfortunate event of an act of terrorism on their structure. Products Made with 100% Wind-Powered Electricity and Reduced Embodied Carbon Owens Corning signed power purchase agreements in 2015. The new wind capacity in Texas and Oklahoma generated 1.1 million megawatt hours of electricity per year enabling Owens Corning to bring to the market the first ever insulation products that met the SCS Global Services’ certification protocol. They validated that the electricity used to make the products is 100% wind powered, which reduced their carbon footprint. The certified insulation products give architects and specifiers, builders, and homeowners the option of lower-carbon products to build structures. For architects, the products will help them design buildings with reduced lifecycle impact and achieve the recognized goals of the Architecture 2030 Challenge and U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED certification. Declare Label The International Living Future Institutes (ILFI) Declare program, the nutrition label for building products, is often compared to nutritional labels on packaged foods. Declare ‘nutrition-label’ for products provides a clear, and informative method for manufacturer to disclose ingredients of their products. Additionally, Declare product database helps the designers, and specifiers to make more informative choices when it comes to product selection. GREENGUARD Products with UL GREENGUARD ® Certification have met comprehensive standards for low emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) into indoor air. The UL GREENGUARD ® Gold Certification Standard includes health-based criteria for additional chemicals and requires lower total VOC emissions levels. GREENGUARD ® Gold Certified products are qualified for use in environments such as schools and healthcare facilities. GREENGUARD ® Gold Certified products must follow requirements of the State of California’s Department of Public Health “Standard Method for the Testing and Evaluation of Volatile Organic Chemical Emissions from Indoor Sources Using Environmental Chambers, Version 1.1 (2010)” (also known as California Section 01350). Recycled Content Certification Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) Global Services verifies recycled content in our fiberglass, and extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam insulation products in North America. ICC Evaluation Services (ICC-ES) verifies recycled content in our Thermafiber ® insulation products. Owens Corning ® Thermafiber ® products are certified to have minimum 70% recycled content. USDA Biobased The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) biobased labeling initiative is part of the U.S. farm bill focused on increasing the purchase and use of biobased products made from renewable agricultural materials. The purpose of the initiative is to identify biobased products for all buyers and to promote sale and use of biobased products. To be USDA certified, vendor products undergo biobased product testing by an accredited laboratory. Owens Corning ® Fiberglas™ EcoTouch ® insulation and Thermafiber ® SAFB™ FF, UltraBatt™ FF, Safing FF, and FireSpan ® FF insulations are certified and listed in the USDA’s BioPreferred ® Program Catalog and are eligible for preferred federal purchasing. Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) An EPD is an independently verified and registered document that communicates transparent information about a product’s environmental impacts throughout its life cycle. Owens Corning issued the first North American EPD for fiberglass insulation in November 2012, followed by the first North American extruded polystyrene (XPS) foam insulation EPD in November 2013. EPD’s of all core building products were certified and issued by UL Environment by the end of 2015. Health Product Declaration ® The Health Product Declaration ® (HPD) is a document for reporting the material contents of building products and the potential hazard associated with these materials. The reporting follows a set of stringent regulations, set by the Health Product Declaration Collaborative ® (HPDc). HPD compares product ingredients to a set of priority “hazard” lists based on the GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals and additional lists from other agencies. Living Product Challenge Certification Living Product Challenge (LPC) is a unified tool to bring together complex multi attribute data for a responsible material creation and selection. The products are certified by ILFI in seven performance areas; Place, Health + Happiness, Materials, Equity, Beauty, Water, and Energy. Formaldehyde Free Claim Verification UL Environment validates claims that a product does not contain formaldehyde (or formaldehyde precursors). The validation is based on auditing raw material inputs and testing chemical emissions from the product. Product with Formaldehyde Free claim validation must also maintain UL GREENGUARD ® Gold certification. COMMERCIAL AND INSTITUTIONAL CLAIMS GUIDE
