WORSHIP NOTES

Participants: Karl Haffner, our senior pastor, presents the third sermon in his five-week series on. Today we consider “the importance of Bible study.” Randy Daniel, an elder, hosts today’s service.

Victor Brown, director of recruitment at Kettering College of Medical Arts, brings the children’s story. Gregand Kim Taylor are the youth pastor team at the Glendale Adventist Church in Indianapolis. They readtoday’s Scripture Lesson and present the Prayers of the People, and came today with Jerry Taylor’sgrandchildren, Matthew & Jacob, to visit him.

Music: As we gather for worship, the Kettering Brass, under the direction of Steve Hall, play a setting byTim Rumsey of William Doane’s hymn, found in our Hymnal No. 341. J.S. Bach’s

was composed originally for organ. It is heard today in a transcription for Brass Ensemble byCharles Decker.

(Hymn 274) was originally titled “Holy Scriptures” and published in 1867. It isbased on Proverbs 6:23, “For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light.” Throughout the hymn theemphasis is on light — the Word of God — as opposed to the darkness or ignorance. Note stanza 1: light, dark, radiance, lantern, shines — 2: light, shine — 3: shineth, beacon, darkling — 4: lamp, light, clouds, darkness.

is an American anthem in the style that became popular for a short time around1900 of writing very exciting, jubilant words sung to a minor slow tune. This was to contrast the joys of heavenwith the darkness of earth.

is based upon Hymn 334 using the tune, as found in JoynWyeth’s Respository. It was chosen to be played for today’s service because the text is filled with symbols ofour asking God for guidance.

(Hymn 276) is a new British hymn written in 1971 for the Triple Jubilee of the British andForeign Bible Society. The tune is named after the composer, Peter Cutts, home church.

is the most famous movement of Gustav Holst’s that wasoriginally compsed for band. It was transcribed for brass in 2005 by Jerry Nowak. A “Dargason” is an Englishdance performed at only the highest of festival events.

“Getting God in the Book”Third message in series:

I. Reviewing the Series

A. Getting God in the daily grind

B. Getting God in mind (1 Corinthians 2:16) But we have the mind of Christ. (Philippians 2:5, KJV) Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. (2 Corinthians 10:5) Take captive every thought to make it obedient to

Christ. (Romans 12:2) Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but

be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

“Contrary to what we assume, the normal state of the mind is chaos…When we areleft alone with no demands on attention, the basic disorder of the mind reveals itself.” —Mihály Csikszentmihalyi.

II. Changing your Mind(Ephesians 5:25-26) Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her

holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word.

III. Becoming Brainwashed(2 Timothy 3:16-17) All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching,

rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may bethoroughly equipped for every good work.

IV. Expressing the Word

“...I thank my God for your fellowship – your cooperation, your contributions, and partnership – in advancing the Gospel.” Philippians 1:5.

Faith Comes By Hearing. The supplier of theYou’ve Got the Time Bible audio discs, invitesthose who benefit from listening to the MP3 NewTestament library to assist in spreading the Wordof God by helping to sponsor a new translationof the Bible into a native language.

Our church has accepted the challenge to adopt Ghanaas the recipient of the Bible books we sponsor. Thecost to record a complete translation of the New Testa-ment is $25,596. With 27 books from Matthew to Rev-elation, the cost is broken down to $948 per book.

Our goal is to sponsor 4 books of the Audio New Testament for theGhanian people.

If each family gives $20, together we can accomplish this goal. Markyour Tithe envelope “You’ve Got the Time” to contribute to this project.

Ghanian people awaitour help!
