Born in London, Nic Raine studied organ,

piano, double bass and guitar. As a con-

ductor he has appeared with the English

Chamber, Royal Philharmonic and Phil-

harmonia Orchestras, Academy of St.

Martin in the Fields, Chamber Orchestra

of London, Czech Philharmonic Orches-

tra, Ulster Orchestra, Royal Scottish Na-

tional Orchestra, Orchestra of the City of

Granada, the New Millenium Orchestra

de Gijon, the Berlin Symphony Orchestra,

the Radio-Philharmonie Hannover NDR

the SWDR Orchestra of Kaiserslautern

and the Staaskapelle orchestra of Weimar

and the Orchestra of the City of Quebec.

He has also conducted more than thirty

recordings of film music for Silva Screen

records with the City of Prague Philhar-

monic Orchestra.

As an orchestrator and arranger, Nic Raine

has worked on film scores with Miklos

Rozsa, Elmer Bernstein, George Fenton,

Maurice Jarre, Howard Blake, Hans Zim-

mer, Stanley Myers, Gabriel Yared, Mark

Ayres, Stanislas Syrewicz, Shaun Davey,

Kevin Kiner and Michael Kamen. For televi-

sion he has orchestrated the Wallace and

Gromit animation films ‘The Wrong Trou-

sers’ and ‘A Close Shave’ for Julian Nott

and ‘The King’s Beard’ for Philip Appleby.

Nic Raine has had a special collaborative

relationship with John Barry. The two

have worked together for twenty years

on many films scores, including two Bond

movies (A View to a Kill and The Living

Daylights) ‘Enigma’ and on John’s highly

acclaimed album ‘The Beyondness of

Things’. He has also arranged some of the

songs for Barry’s London west-end musi-

cal ‘Brighton Rock’. Nic has re-recorded

many of Barry’s older film scores and a

successful four CD set of the complete

James Bond music.

He is accustomed to working with silent

movies having orchestrated many scores

for Carl Davis including ‘The General’,

Safety Last’, ‘The Kid Brother’, ‘The Four

Horsemen of the Apocalypse’, ‘Wings’ and

the ‘Phantom of the Opera’. Nic also recon-

structed Chaplin’s score for ‘City Lights’

and Hugo Riesenfelds score for ‘Sunrise’.

He has also conducted live performances

of James Bernard’s silent movie score for

‘Nosferatu’ at the Royal Festival Hall and

performances of ‘The General’ at the Al-

hambra in Granada, Spain.

Nic Raine has worked with contemporary

artists having arranged tracks for Maire

Brennan (Clannard), Duran Duran, Aha,

B.A. Robertson, Desree and Texas. He also

orchestrated the ‘Liverpool Oratorio’ for

Carl Davis and Paul McCartney. More re-

cently, Nic has orchestrated the music

for the fantasy Sony Playstation games

‘Primal’ and ‘Medievil II’ and for Micro-

soft, ‘Kameo’ and ‘Viva Pinata’ I and II

and Sega’s Vikings, Battle for Asgard. He

has also orchestrated 90 minutes of the

popular synthesizer music of Jean Michel

Jarre, including pieces from Oxygene,

Chronologie, Magnetic Fields and Indus-

trial Revolutions for CD release.

Other film credits are the Oliver Stone

movie ‘Alexander’ for which Nic orches-

trated, arranged and conducted music

by Vangelis, and the Wallace and Gromit

film ‘Curse of the Were-rabbit’! Collabo-

rating with Kevin Kiner, he has recently

orchestrated the Lucasfilm animated

Star Wars picture Clone Wars. Nic also

works in the French film industry hav-

ing recently collaborated with Laurent

Boutonnat on ‘Jacquou le Croquant’ and

Philippe Sarde on ‘Les Temoins’, ‘La Prin-

cesse de Montpensier – director Bertrand

Tavenier’ – and ‘Once I was’.

In addition to his work as an orchestra-

tor and conductor, Nic Raine has had

success as a composer, writing the mu-

sic for ‘Lon Chaney, Man of a Thousand

Faces’, ‘Cinema Europe, the other Hol-

lywood,’ ‘D.W. Griffith, the Father of

Film’, and the short film ‘Bathtime’. He

has co-composed the musical ‘Ludwig 2’

with Konstantin Wecker and Christopher

Franke which played in Füssen, Bavaria.

He recently compsed the score for the

Swiss film ‘Impasse du Desir.’ Einfügen

am Ende: Nic Raine just wrote the score

music for “Der Mann mit den Fagott” a

family drama based on the book of Udo

Jürgens.
