Student half-yearly reports were sent home yesterday. Please contact the school if you did not receive your child’s report.
Over the last few years there have been some changes to the grades provided for English and Mathematics.
Parents are reminded that a C grade is one that is at the grade expected level. It means: The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.
When you receive your child’s report, please take the time to read the explanation of the grades. The explanations provide a good deal of information around what a student can do.
Athletics Carnival POSTPONED
Due to the current changing forecast of rain for most of this week and early next week, our annual athletics carnival has been postponed until Wednesday, 29 June. We apologise for the change of date, but wanted to provide as much warning as possible. Normal lessons will be held this Friday.
The carnival is a school day that all students are expected to attend. Children are asked to be at school by 9.00 am to allow rolls to be marked and events to begin on time. Parents and carers are invited to join students to cheer students on. The canteen will be operating, with children encouraged to place orders to ensure that they are able to eat lunch within the 20 minute lunch period. The more helpers that are available in the canteen means that parents will be able to see their children compete in events.
Students will need to have a hat, water bottle, warm clothing (including school jumper), and wear sensible sports shoes and either their sports uniform OR their house colours to the athletics carnival. The house colours are:
Gilmore - yellow Kendal - blue Lawson - red Paterson - green
The discus finals will be held over the next few days to make the most of any dry weather.
As shot put is an event where we would like competitive students to have three throws, finals will be held on the day of the athletics carnival. A second circle will be run for those wishing to have a throw, but who may not be in the finals.
In the event that wet weather interferes with the new date of the carnival, we will attempt to hold races and competitive events as the weather permits before the end of the term.
Our school will be able to nominate up to two students for each of the track events and one student for each field event for the Lachlan Zone PSSA Athletics Trials.
Three-Way Interviews
To assist in better understanding how your child is performing at school, parents are invited to participate in a Three-Way Interview with the teacher and child on either Wednesday, 22 June or 29 June.
Anaphylaxis
Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction. Some of our students have been hospitalised in the past by their allergies and may be prescribed with an Epipen. All staff of our school are trained in the use of the Epipen.
A number of our children are allergic to nut products, and others are allergic to eggs or other food products. To reduce the chance that a child will suffer an anaphylactic reaction at school, we ask that students not bring peanut butter sandwiches or other foods containing nut products to school.
We also have a student that is severely allergic to fragrances, and others that suffer asthmatic reactions and migraines due to some fragrances and aerosol sprays. While we regularly remind families of the need to have our school fragrance-free, some people are not aware of the seriousness of fragrance allergies. It is important that students do not bring coloured hairspray to school for sporting events, mufti days or discos. Similarly, we ask that students and visiting adults avoid using perfumes or deodorants that are not fragrance-free.
We appreciate your support in keeping all of our students safe and well.
Keep Warm
Please remind your child to have a warm school jumper or jacket with them at all times. Often, when children leave home they are quite warm and do not think about how cold it may be on the playground.
NAIDOC Assembly
Parents and community members are invited to join students and staff as we celebrate NAIDOC Week for 2016. This year’s theme is Songlines: the living narrative of our nation.
A special assembly will be held next Friday, 1 July.
Tummy Bugs
In the past few weeks we have noticed an increase in the number of students suffering tummy bugs and flu symptoms. There are a number of viruses that can cause diarrhoea or vomiting. Please seek medical assistance if your child develops a rash, shows signs of dehydration or the symptoms continue beyond a couple of days.
Hand washing before eating and after using the toilet is the best method of reducing the spread of diarrhoea and vomiting. Children should not be attending school if they have diarrhoea or vomiting. Please send a note to explain the reason for absences or ask for a medical certificate if you take your child to see a doctor.

NAIDOC Public Speaking
Last Thursday, Chloey Powell, Sophie Jones, Kiara Harris and Arnja Hill represented
Condobolin Public School at the NAIDOC Public Speaking Competition in Cowra. Each school
was able to enter two teams, with 13 teams participating in the Lachlan round of the competition.
Teams were made up of one Indigenous student and one non-Indigenous student, and the topic
was “Songlines; The Narrative of Our Nation”. Each team was required to deliver a four minute
speech.
Ms Horvat had the pleasure of accompanying our teams, and was extremely proud of each
student. Both our teams were very strong in their presentation and received excellent feedback
from the adjudicator and audience members. The winners for this round of the competition (from
Cowra Public) were also the second time State Champions. With such a high level of
competition, it was a wonderful experience for our students to see (and learn from) other young
outstanding public speakers.
An added bonus for the day was the presence of actor Luke Carroll, who gave a motivational talk
about his career and came over to personally congratulate our students.
Ms Horvat would like to thank the parents of each student and Miss Richards for supporting
Chloey and Sophie in putting their speech together.
Congratulations to Chloey, Sophie, Kiara and Arnja for their STRONG, SMART and PROUD
efforts!
