Presidential Report 2018
Dear CEB member Federations, The year 2018 was one for the books. History was made twice, first with the birth of the World Baseball Softball Confederation Europe during an inaugural Congress organized in Val d’Europe, and second with the inaugural edition of the Super 6 Baseball Softball organized by Koninklijke Nederlandse Baseball en Softball Bond, CEB and the European Softball Federation in Hoofddorp. Two events that proved that baseball and softball can work together, that they indeed belong together. With a unanimous vote during the Congress held in February, all Baseball and Softball National Federations of Europe have affirmed their will to keep moving forward as one and only sport within one organization in the future. They were proved correct with the organization of a first ever top-level event bringing the best National Teams of European Baseball and Softball together in the same place and at the same time. I want to express my profound appreciation to KNBSB for the organization, ESF and CEB for the great cooperation and congratulate The Netherlands (baseball) and Czech Republic (softball) for winning this first Super 6, I hope one of many more to come. Our tournaments were again successful in 2018, some even beating record participation like the U12 European Championship organized in Hungary, a clear sign that youth development is a priority now among most of our national federations. I want to thank all participants and organizers of this year’s competitions and congratulate Italy (U12 EBC), Slovakia and Russia (U15 EBC Qualifiers), The Netherlands (U18 EBC), Ukraine (U23 EBC Qualifier), Ireland and Ukraine (EBC Senior C-Pool), Austria (Play-off EBC Senior), Vienna Wanderers and Zurich Barracudas (Federations Cup Qualifiers), Astros Valencia (Federations Cup), Borgerhout Squirrels (CEB Cup) and Curaçao Neptunus (Champions Cup) for their great victories. Some key achievements off the field also need to be brought to light. Under the helm of Rainer Husty, 3rd vice-president in charge of media and communication, a new web platform was launched, www.baseballsoftball.tv, following the partnership signed with SportsRadar. Not only is CEB willing to develop the streaming of its competitions but also encouraging national federations and their clubs to stream their events and use the opportunity of the platform to showcase them. 2019 will be a year of excitement. With the historic return of Baseball and Softball at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the best nations of Europe will take the Road to Tokyo with the awaited European Championships then the Olympic Qualification Tournaments. It is now our understanding that the World Baseball Softball Confederation will announce the

place and date of the Europe/Africa Olympic Qualification Tournament during its Executive Committee next January in Rome. Strongly awaited as well will be the status of our sport on the long term at the Olympics. Paris 2024 will send a list of proposed additional sports to the International Olympic Committee in March, the IOC setting a first list of potential invited sports during its session in June. We need Baseball-Softball to be this list to keep our hopes alive until the final decision to be taken in 2020. On another note, we are looking forward to the MLB London Series in June 29-30 where the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox will take their rivalry to Europe. It surely is a great opportunity to boost media exposure of our sport on the Old continent and by judging the pace at which the tickets are being sold we can already forecast a popular success of the event. We are also looking forward the establishment of WBSC Europe’s interim Executive Committee and the next steps of the development of our new continental body, a process that we will be achieved in 2021 with the dissolution of CEB and ESF, baseball and softball really being one by the next Olympic cycle. I would like to thank all Executive Committee members, Presidents, members of Commissions and officials for their work as well as Kristina Uroïc who run the day to day activities of the office in Zagreb. I wish all players, coaches, officials and leaders the very best for 2019.
Marketing and Media Commission Report 2018
In its second year of activity the CEB Marketing and Media Commission, which again worked closely with ESF, focused on the roll-out of the baseballsoftball.tv platform that was introduced to National Federations during the 2018 Congress. The commission is led by vice-president Rainer Husty who is assisted by Johannes Godler, Philipp Würfel and François Collet.

In 2018, the implementation of media guidelines to CEB tournaments was a first step to increase attention for our baseball events. We published more articles on the website and press releases than in 2017 and our social media engagement kept improving, drawing more and new fans to our beloved sport. This was achieved due to the great efforts of media teams at our tournaments all around Europe. Three CEB tournaments including the highlight of 2018 - the first ever edition of the WBSC Europe Super 6 tournament - were streamed live with the help of SportRadar. The Championship Finals of the Italian, Austrian and Czech Baseball Leagues were also broadcasted on our platform in addition to various international tournaments. All these efforts have proved successful as new revenues were generated, opening a new field of development for CEB in the coming years with a rising number of media activities. For 2019 our goal is not only to implement more international events but also to provide member federations with their own channels. As not everything worked out from the very beginning, we soon realized that a better onboarding process for tournament media teams, producers and external partners who want to stream via baseballsoftball.tv was needed. Together with Sportradar we are now trying to improve the handling and the upstreaming of live streams and other video content, the covering of a tournament and its posting on baseballsoftball.tv. Business opportunities A deal was signed for baseball balls in 2018 with Teammate. All CEB tournaments were run with Teammate balls that were provided at no cost for the event organizers. Furthermore, a cooperation contract could be concluded with a baseball equipment supplier. Bens Sports becomes an official CEB supplier and will equip all Officials with the necessary apparel for the 2019 season. Furthermore, a collection of WBSC Europe fan ware will be launched to get a foothold in marketing soon. TV

TV reach has improved in comparison to the previous years. More than 140.000 people watched CEBs tournaments online as more and more baseball games, international tournaments and national leagues were streamed for free on TV. This is and will be a big factor to spread our sport and its acceptance in Europe. Super 6 The first ever edition of the WBSC Europe Super 6 Tournament brought the baseball and softball community in Europe together in one site. Hoofddorp and KNBSB were great hosts for the inaugural edition. Unfortunately, the weather was not on our side so the tournament couldn’t be finished as planned. Still, it was a great example of how our tournaments and how media communication can be run. We want to express our warmest gratitude to KNBSB which worked side-by-side with CEB and ESF’s Media team for their efforts.

Umpire Commission Report 2018
Umpire Commission in 2018: Fred van Groningen Schinkel (NED) Chairman Ludo Peters (BEL) member Marco Screti (ITA) member Clinics Development In Prague (CZE) from March 17 to March 20 a clinic was held in collaboration with WBSC. The instructors were Gustavo Rodriguez and Fred van Groningen Schinkel. They were assisted by various international umpires from the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Umpires -starting- in MLB camp San Boy (ESP) Paul Nguyen (FRA), Antoine Loock (NED), Simone Menicucci (ITA), Oswald Tscharf (AUT) Before the start of the CEB competitions there was a meeting with the umpires during or after the TC meetings. Main changes are: # Amended Rule 5.05(b)(1) # Amended Rule 5.07(a) # Amended Rule 5.07(a)(2) Exchange of CEB-Umpires during international tournaments in Europe To further improve the CEB Umpire CEB makes arrangements with the organization of international tournaments, to invite CEB-Umpires to participate. The goal is to help Umpires to stay on a high level of umpiring. Tim Meyer (GER) Simone Menicucci (ITA) Roy van de Wateringen (NED) European Tournaments Umpire evaluations In 2018 the CEB Umpire Commission nominated in the 14 tournaments 105 umpires. The umpires were assessed in 260 games by a technical commissioner. The technical commissioner has to evaluate the game with the umpire and fill in a report. At the end of the tournament these reports were send to the Umpire Commission and were administrated. The comments of the TCs were personally sent to all active umpires in the tournaments. The goal is that the umpires can improve themselves even more. After the European competitions, we were able to inform the national federations, that provided umpires, about the results of their umpires during CEB Events in 2018. Matters of instruction During the tournaments, all TC was asked to pay attention to the following: Discuss with the Umpires, before the tournament starts, the changes in the baseball rules for 2018.

Scorers Commission Report 2018 Scorer Commission in 2018 Linda Steijger (NED) chairwoman and Stephanie Winkler (GER). Tournaments In 2018 a total of 14 tournaments were played. All results, statistics and daily reports of these CEB tournaments are published on the CEB competition website (www.baseballstats.eu). In these tournaments 12 different scoring directors as well as two international scorers were active. Recommandations to LOC’s To perform the play-by-play it is recommended to have a wired internet connection or connection via USB. Too many WiFi connections fail when more and more people use the same connection as the play-by-play does. It is required to nominate the number of scorers mentioned in the competition rules. These numbers exclude the Scoring Director. Also the scorers should be dedicated to keeping score which means not being a player, part of the field crew etc. If hosting countries need their local scorers to be trained, they should contact the Scorer Commission so we can prepare a scoring clinic. Clinics With the support of WBSC Development Commission an official scoring clinic (scoring on paper) was held in Stockholm/Sweden in March 2018. With 9 participants (7 from Sweden, 1 from Norway and 1 from Denmark) we have had an interactive clinic where not only the scoring method was presented, but there was room for scoring discussions. With the support of some Scoring Directors, it was possible to have (paper) scoring clinics just before tournament starts. We would recommend these kind of clinics to more organising countries. Scoring manual CEB adopted the WBSC Baseball Scoring manual (finalized in 2016) for all CEB tournaments. With the help of WBSC over 300 scorers of 18 CEB member federations already received a link to the manual. They are not allowed to distribute the manual to third parts or to publish it on any website or social media. Any further requests to

receive the link for the manual should be approved by the CEB Scoring Commission, but only on official federation request. CEB Scorers active in WBSC tournaments.
