Before use : storage conditions
Sepam must be stored in good condition to avoid any life time reduction :
– In it’s factory package
– In dry and clean place
– Temperature does not have to exceed -25°C/-13°F and +70°C/+158°F
– Exposure to continuous damp heat : 93%RH +40°C +104°F does not have to exceed 56 days
– If storage must be longer than a year, Sepam should be energized for one or two days every year

INSTALLATION RULES
Installation rules
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt13
Generic rules : earthing
Refer to document :
“MV protection relay installation assistance guide” ref 51312779F0 A2
Guarantee an equipotent bonding network
Connect every equipment to earth
Series 20Series 40Series 80
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt14
Generic rules : disturbing and sensitive cables
Disturbing cables are :– Power circuit in general, Welding machine power supply in particular– PEN and PE conductors– Control circuit including inductive loads : relays, contactors,…
sensitive cables are :– Communication circuits– Analogue measurement circuits : unbalance CT input, Temp sensors
Avoid the parallel running of disturbing and sensitive cables
Or assure separation distance between disturbing and sensitive cables
Disturbing and sensitive cables must cross at right angle
Series 20Series 40Series 80
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt15
Generic rules : ground loop
Minimize ground loop areas : cables must be as close as possible from earthed metallic part
A ground loop results from the area between an active conductor and the ground.
Series 20Series 40Series 80
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt16
Generic rules : I/O
Outgoing and incoming I/O cables must be together
Shielded cables are grounded at both ends
(only if both sides are equipotent by an other way !!!) Free conductors in cables must be earthed at both ends Unused input must be shorted to earth
Series 20Series 40Series 80
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt17
Cubicle prerequisite
Switchgear must be connected to building earth
Every metallic parts of cubicle, including doors, must be connected together and to earth by wide conductor on non paint parts
Series 20Series 40Series 80
CTs and VTs secondary common point should be connected to main earth terminal (rectangular copper bare) of cubicle in MV compartment
LV compartment should also have a main earth terminal directly connected to the LV compartment one and on witch each equipment should be connected
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt18
Power supply requirements
Nominal range : 24 / 250 VDC or 110 / 250 VAC (47.5 / 63 Hz) Absolute range ( -20 / +10% ) : 19.2 / 275 VDC or 88 / 275 VAC
Series 80 accept only DC voltage supply Nominal range : 24 / 250 VDC Absolute range ( -20 / +10% ) : 19.2 / 275 VDC
Focus on DC supply :– Rectified only should not be used because it will reduce lifetime – Acceptable ripple content on DC voltage : 12%

Current sensor inputs
CCA630/CCA634 connector
The CCA630 connector is used to connect 3 phase current transformers to Sepam
The CCA634 adds an input for a residual current transformer : do not connect a core balance ct
With CCA634 Io input on A or E connector must not be used.
Both contain interposing ring CTs with through primaries and be disconnected with the power on since disconnection does not open the CT secondary circuit.

Phase current inputs : CTs wiring
Series 20Series 40Series 80
Power consumption in cables :
CT must feed all connected equipments : SEPAM, ammeter,…, and cables !!
Pwire = I² x ρ x L / S ρ = 1,728 10-8 at 20C° L = wire length, go and back, in meter
e.g. : CT secondary : 5A S = 1.5mm² L=30m P = 8.6 VA
CT secondary : 5A S = 4mm² L=30m P = 2.2 VA

CCA670 or CCA671 connector– connection of 3 LPCTs
(Low Power Current Transducers)– parameter setting using SFT2841
software, completed by hardware setting of microswitches
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt33
Residual current inputs : CSH 30/120/200
Series 20Series 40Series 80
CSH120 or CSH200 core balance CT– ratio of 1/470
CT + CSH30– connection of CT with secondary
– 1A: 2 turns– 5A: 4 turns
– Or direct on CCA634
Sepam Installation EN 2007_01.ppt34
Residual current inputs : recommendations
Series 20Series 40Series 80
Cabling recommendations The CSH120 or CSH200 core-balance CT is connected directly to the Sepam
connector. Recommended cables:
A twisted two-wire connection is recommended.
Shielded cable may also be used
The maximum resistance of the Sepam connection wiring should not be more than 4 Ω.
CSH 30 must be placed in a low magnetic activity area in LV compartment : e.g. away from auxiliary transformer

Main points to remember
Take care of storage conditions
Connecting Sepam and additional modules to earth is compulsory.
All output relays are not identical :– Some are control type with 8A continuous current
• For Sepam 20/40 : O1 / 02 / 011• For Sepam 80 :O1 -> 04 et O101 / O201 / O301
The availability of some protection functions depend on VTs wiring
ACExxx communication modules need to be powered with 12 or 24 V DC
3 communication protocol are available: DNP3 / IEC 870-5-103 / Modbus
Synchro check option only work with series 80 and need specific cable CCA 785
