Continuing Controversy over Glyceryl Trinitrate Patches Induced angina is hardly affected in this trial

In a double-blind trial, the pacing threshold for induction of angina was measured in patients undergoing coronary angiography. Patients were then randomised to treatment with glyceryl trinitrate [nitroglycerin] 2 x 25mg or placebo patches. The angina threshold rose slightly in the glyceryl trinitrate recipients but the difference between the groups did not reach significance at any time over 24 hours. Although these results did not allow the authors to comment on tolerance to the preparation [Inpharma 507: 4 (5 Oct 1985)} ' .•• they do serve to emphasise the controversy over the value of this preparation'.
