Cooperation with Ukraine Ukraine has been a priority partner country for Esto- nia’s development cooperation since 2006. The support is focused on Ukraine’s good governance and public administration reforms, digital transition and building resilience. Estonia’s programmes help create new jobs and improve the quality of the education system. Significant amount of assistance has been given to the Ukraine’s regions, especially in the East. To date, Estonia has contributed over €18 million towards supporting Ukraine’s development. Support areas Governance and reform ICT solutions and the development of start-ups Improved education Anti-corruption measures Regional development Strategic communication Cybersecurity COVID-19 In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Estonia has assisted Ukraine with humanitarian aid (€25 000) and started specic development cooperation projects that help mitigate the impact of the virus outbreak (€1 million). These include supporting women entrepre- neurs in eastern Ukraine, mitigating the socio- economic consequences of COVID-19 in the education sector, strengthening crisis communication in the regions and improving nurses’ qualifications. Scholarships As part of Estonia’s development cooperation with Ukraine, scholarships are offered to students, civil servants and diplomats across Ukraine providing study opportunities in top Estonian universities and at the Estonian Diplomatic School. The most popular study programmes in 2020 were academic degrees in e-governance, practical robotics, IT law and edu- cational innovation. Since 2015, more than 200 Ukrainians have had the opportunity to study in Esto- nia with this funding. Ukraine has been a priority partner country for Esto-nia’s development cooperation since 2006. The support is focused on Ukraine’s good governance and public administration reforms, digital transition and building resilience.
