    Thus, you can

    Copy anything from TV & radio for teaching

    purposes

    make these programmes available to students

    So, what can you copy? (1) Copy from both cable and satellite television (pay

    or free-to-air) anytime, anywhere, into any format

    Copy entire programmes / excerpts

    No limits on the number of copies

    Ensure that all copies are used for educationalpurposes & are appropriately labelled.

    into an electronic format?

    Yes!

    Able to edit copies & incorporate them into

    compilations in formats such as CD-ROM aslong as each item in the compilation is labelled.

    Yes!

    Programmes recorded off-air must only be used

    for educational purposes and shown only to Uni

    You are playing it for educational instruction.

    Yes!

    Able to show a hired or purchased DVD in aclass as part of a course of instruction provided

    only University ofSydney students and staff are

    No!

    Copying purchased or hired videos or CDs

    I have some videos that I use forteaching in my office; can I copy these

    to DVD?

    You can only transfer those that wererecorded from TV after 1990

    Can I download podcasts & vodcastsfrom overseas broadcasters websites?

    Yes, provided the material is

    of a free-to-air broadcast

    the broadcast has been made legally

    the broadcast has been made in a country that is

    a signatory to the Rome Convention; and,

    the material has been made available online by

    the broadcaster.

    Digital content created especially for the

    Internet (but not broadcast overradio/TV)

    Podcasts from local cable TV

    stations Podcasts from websites such as

    YouTube, Flickr or MySpace

    some of these podcasts particularly

    those created especially for the Internet.The following tips may assist:

    check the conditions of use

    create a link to the podcast contact the copyright owner and ask for

    obtain permission to use the material

    No!

    However, you must ensure that the

    available copies are labelled with the

    required data

    You may also be required to completerecords during a survey period.
