No. 02 6076 1849 www.corryong.vic.edu.au [email protected] Dear Parents/Guardians, Welcome back to term 4. What a magic time of year. It is beautiful to see the community in full bloom and radiant sunshine. Thanks to our parent helpers, taking our readers outside to assist their reading while getting fresh air. A reminder, we are always looking for parent helpers. Come along and be someone that our students can read to. This is a huge help and the children really love the opportunity. This term I would like to welcome Dr Chris Allen, Acting Assistant Principal for term 4 while Sarah Klippel and Chrissie McKimmie concentrate on their VCE classes. Dr Chris Allen has been introduced to all students and staff through classroom visits. He has settle in very well and already the students are showing a liking towards his great sense of humour and genuine care for their learning. Chris is continuing his classroom visits and support which is assisting him in getting to know each of our students as learners and individuals. Chriss title is the result of the result of his PhD in Education and Business Studies. It s great for our children to see this dedication and understand the title. He comes to us from a Melbourne College and will be living in the community through this term. Please join us in making him welcome. Thank you to the Op Shop team and volunteers who have raised a significant amount to be put towards our childrens learning. Yesterday Belinda Petersohn, on behalf of the Op Shop, gifted the college with a $6750 cheque. We are highly grateful for the many hours that are put into manning the Op Shop and the organisation that goes behind running such a great initiative. Thank you to you all. Please, if any parents have a few spare hours, volunteer for a shift at the Op Shop. It is highly evident how crucial it is in supporting our college. Over the break, many teachers work hard on their term planning, marking and redeveloping programs. The VCE teachers also spent many a day working with their VCE students to ensure their time was spent revising and reiterating learning. With only a few weeks to go, this time has been vital. A couple from the junior school took on a weeks long intense literacy course, of which I too joined them. The week was thoroughly engaging and inspiring, but yes, very exhausting. This course supports our school improvement goals as we work hard in aligning a consistent and evidence based literacy program across the F-6 that encapsulates positive literacy learning for ALL students. The course is developed out of the research of strong outcome based evidence that allows access and strong achievement for students with dyslexia. Research now shows that 1 in 5 people have dyslexia. This is not something that should be looked as a deficit model but a great opportunity for us as teachers, to learn best ways to ensure our children with dyslexia can access literacy learning in each and every classroom rather than being picked up only in an intervention program. Reminder: Fees and Payments - Are you up to date on your fees and payments? Thank you to those whom have paid their fees. As our previous KIT, monies paid for school fees are a vital part of the learning programs that are facilitated for each and every child in our college. We rely heavily on these to pay for your children s day-to- day resources and the great learning activities they are engaged in. You would have, at the end of August, received a statement outlining fees owing. In some cases there have been some quite old outstanding payments and I ask you to please make arrangements to see me at the start of term 4 if you wish to make a payment plan for this. Reminder for TONIGHTs SOCIAL Venue: ECA Centre - Senior Campus BBQ: 7:00pm - 7:45pm Primary student time: 5:30 - 7:00pm Secondary student time: 7:30 - 10:00pm (Doors locked 8:00pm). Secondary theme: Famous groups and iconic duos Please be informed that the highest expectation remains for student behaviour and no students will be permitted to leave the social after closing of doors unless a parent collects them. Wishing all students a great night at the social and to all, a lovely weekend. Fran Heath College Principal
