She was born on July16,1959,inBurley,Ida-ho, the daughter of LeoS. and Wilma GillettThurston. She was theseventh child of sevenchildren(4sistersand2brothers).ShegrewupandattendedschoolsinBurley,andcollegeinUtahandCalifornia.ShemarriedWendellH.JessoponDec.22,1988, inBurley. Inthemid90s, theymovedtoGooding and established roots. She loved the areaand said she was there to stay. She was an activememberoftheLDSChurchandlovedservinginthePrimarybeforeherhealthdeclined. She and Wendell are the parents of one child,Misti Jessop Rex (Tyler) of Kuna, Idaho. She wasa devoted wife and mother. She loved family, theoutdoors,herdogs, andespecially the family cabin-wheretheyspentmanyhappydays. She is survived by her husband; daughter; twobrothers,Frank(Mayumi)ThurstonofCollinsville,Okla., and Tim (Kathryn) Thurston of Blooming-ton,Ind.;foursisters,Billie(Dee)GiffordofOdgen,Utah, Karen (Larry) Richman of Meridian, LaurieMounceofPaul,andRose(Kris)HansenofBurley;andmanyniecesandnephews. RoyCharlesDiemart Roy Charles Diemart, 69,aresidentofWendell,Idaho,died,Friday,the13thdayofJune 2014, with his familyinhishomeafteralongill-ness. Roy was born on August1, 1944 in El Dorado, Kan-sas,thesonofWalterHenryand Olga Mae Diemart. Hewas raised in rural Kansas.Hegraduated fromBushtonHighSchoolin1962.Heat-tendedKansasStateUniversity,CollegeofSouthernIda-ho,andgraduatedfromWichitaStateUniversity. In 1968, he married the love of his life Afton LouiseWestfallonJanuary28,1967inHamilton,Kansas.TheyweresealedintheSaltLakeTemplefortimeandalleter-nityonAugust17,1974. RoywasamemberoftheChurchofJesusChristofLat-ter-daySaintsandhewasveryactivewiththeBoyScoutprogramandservedinmanypositions. OneofRoy’sfondestmemoriesofhischildhoodinclud-ed fishing in Minnesota with his family. Roy was a tal-entedrunnerintrackandstillholdstheschoolrecordforthefastest400meterrun.RoyenlistedwithUnitedStatesAirForceduringtheVietnamWarservinginKorea.HelovedtotravelanddroveallovertheUnitedStatesandCanadawithhisfamily.HelovedtravelingwithhiswifetoHawaii.HeenjoyedtakinghischildrentoDisneyland,hopingontotheridesalongwiththem.Hewasparticu-larlyfondofdrivingthescenicroute,stoppingatanyandevery point of interest. TheCamasCountySchoolexiststopreparestudentstothriveinanever-changingworld.Toaccomplishthisre-quiresustopursueexcellenceonechildatatime.Thatisatallorderandonewetakeseriously. Alllayersofsociety(local,stateandnational)sharethatconcernandhavetakenstepstoensurethatschoolsad-equatelypreparestudents.Forexample,thestateofIdahoimplementedtheMiddleSchoolCreditRequirementbe-ginningwiththe2010-11schoolyear.Thisrequiresthatmiddleschoolstudentspassaminimumnumberofcoursesbeforetheycanbepromotedtothenextgradelevelthefollowingyear.Foraschoolsuchasourswitha14creditloadperyear,eachstudentmustpassatleast12creditstoearnpromotion. Consistent with this task, the Camas County Schoolstrivestohelpallstudentsperformatorabovegradelev-el proficiency. Such a commitment proves challenging,evenunder themost favorablecircumstances.Thisyearhasproventobeexceptionallychallenginginthatregard.Duetoseveralfactors,wehaveseenanunusualnumberofstudentsleavetheschoolwithinthelastyear.Thatisdifficultforustoaccept.Nevertheless,itdoesnotdeterusfrompursuingourmissiontohelpallstudentsperformatorabovegradelevelproficiency. Iamgratefultoservewithastaffthatcaresverymuchaboutchildrenandtheireducation.Iwouldsaythatistheonefactorthatweallshareincommon.Thatpromptsustoput inmuch timeand thought tohelpingeachchildachieve. Staff discussions, both formally and informally,often focuson a particular student and exploreways tohelpthatstudentevenmore.Wehonorthefactthateachchild is unique.Thatuniqueness is part of thepricelessvalue andwonderof the child.Theuniqueness of eachchild makes teaching such an interesting challenge foreachteacherandwewouldn’thaveitanyotherway. Inordertohelpthatchildmakeadequategrowthaca-demicallywefocusoninstructionalplanningthatisbasedonstudentperformancedata.Eachteacherdoesthisex-tensivelyintheclassroom.Wealsodoitinbroaderstrokesat the school level. For example, we have an RTI (Re-sponse to Intervention) team that periodically reviewsstudentperformancedatatohelpidentifythosestudentswhoarenotmakinggradelevelgrowth.Weworkwiththeteacherstoidentifytheachievementgapsandrecommendremediationstrategiestogetthestudentontrack.Some-times this includes specialized testing to identify factorsthatmayinterferewithlearningeffectiveness.

Everyyearpresentsitsownsetofchallengesinhelpingstudents. And this year certainly illustrates that reality.Thisyear’schallengeshavebeenthesubjectofmuchin-ternaldiscussionandreflection.Somechallengesinvolvefactorsthatarewithinourcontrol.Somefactorsarebe-yond.Aswithanychallengethough,wetacklewhatwecancontrolwithaviewtoidentifyingactionswecantaketo improve our effectiveness.
