SOTS Course CentreSOTS Course Centre is an independent division of Stavanger Offshore Technical College and runs commercial operations. The Course Centre has extensive activities in training and education within the school’s main areas.

The Course Centre currently has about 3000 par-ticipants a year in several course areas, working closely with a number of companies and organiza-tions, both offshore as well as locally. The Course Centre develops customized solutions to fit part-ners’ specific requirements.

The Course Centre actively participates in and has completed a number of projects in Europe, Africa and Asia.

SOTSCourseCentrehasafull-fledgedSafetyCentreunderthebrandnameStavangerMaritimeSafety Centre.

The Centre is exclusively located in central Stavanger. The Sea Rescue department is located in front of the Stavanger Offshore Technical College at Kalhammeren. The Fire Fighting facilities arelocatedatTømmeroddeninBuøy,afewminutesbyboatfromtherestofthefacility,withaclear view of the sea entrance into Stavanger and the college.

Among our customers we have operator companies, drilling companies, service companies and cateringpersonneloffshore.Inaddition,wehavemanyparticipantsfromshippingcompanies,whoreceivetraininginaccordancewithIMOregulations.

Our courses are designed in collaboration with the industry, and in line with the prevailing safety regulations.

The Sea Rescue department has a large platform with a command center, three lifeboats includ-inga“freefall”-lifeboat,threeMOBboats,araftstationandanescapechute.Here,ourstudentsare trained in realistic emergency situations in a controlled manner.

The Fire Safety Department receives course participants for practical training. They learn to handleeverythingfromoilandgasfires,tohowfoamsystemsandsmokedivingworks.Inourmaze, participants can experience darkness and uncertainty under safe conditions.

TheSafetyCentrealsoownsandoperatesahelicopterrolloverunit(HUET:HelicopterUnderwa-terEscapeTraining)fortrainingrelatedtoemergencyhelicopterevacuation.Itislocatedinthemodern swimming pool at Solborg Folkehøyskole.

VAKOP - Emergency Response

VAKOP-emergencyresponseassumesthatcompany’sownpersonnelconductverificationofindividual expertise offshore. The verification of competence can be carried out over a whole period of repetition, without the need for additional personnel on board.

The advantage of the concept• Theadvantageofthisconceptisthatthe“VAKOPinstructor”alreadyknowsthelocal conditions and use of equipment found at the individual facilities.• Higherfrequencyandregularity.• Easiertoimplementbyusingpersonnelalreadyonboardinstallations.• Personnellearnalltheoryviae-learningonboard.

Exercises at the Course CentreOffshore personnel will conduct the practical training that is not possible to implement off-shore.

Verification of competence offshoreParticipantsmustprovetheircompetencetotheVAKOPinstructorbymeansofsmallexercisesand training. After carrying out the modules, the instructor will acknowledge them in individual implementation forms.

VAKOP (Verification of Competence) - Instructor TrainingThepersonnelchosenbythecompanyasVAKOPinstructorsshallfollowtheirSMSprocedurestobecheckedasOffshoreInstructors.

The safety of crane and lifting operations has received considerable attention in recent years, especially because of the many serious accidents both onshore and offshore in past years where the use of lifting equipment was involved.

SOTSCourseCentrethroughtheStavangerMaritimeSafetyCentrehasformanyyearsac-cumulated expertise in training in safety and safe use of equipment, especially through the useofcranesforliftinglifeboatsandMOBboats.AttheCentre,ithasdevelopednaturallytoexpandourcoursepackagestoincludeareasincrane/lifting.

Our location at Tømmerodden has developed into a modern technical centre within several disciplines.In2009,thenewcranehallandtwomodernoverheadcraneswerefullyopera-tional.Wehavealreadyhadacomprehensiverigmodulewithassociatedequipment,suchas forklifts.SOTS Course Centre is now an operational centre, which in addition to offering courses in crane/liftingalsooffersexcitingcombinationsintermsofsafetytraining,hydraulics,andmore.

Strap/Slinger Course - G11

GoalThe purpose of the strap course is to give people who work with lifting gear knowledge about the safe use, maintenance, daily inspection and disposal regulations of various lift-ing gear. One should also give signals to the operator maneuvering a crane or other lifting devices so that mishaps and accidents during lifting operations are avoided.

GoalThe objective of the training is to give basic theoretical knowledge about the safe use of forklifts in order to avoid accidents during operation.

Target groupThe purpose of the training is to provide forklift operators a good theoretical basic training in the safe use of forklifts, so that incidents and accidents related to forklift operation are avoided. The training will give candidates a good understanding of the principles of forklift construction, operation, maintenance and use. The training covers the theoretical safety training required for forklift operators.

Specialization in Drilling

These education programs are aimed at different areas of the petroleum industry.Withspecializationindrilling,wellservice,petroleumproductionandsubseainstallations, you can acquire skills for exciting work in a middle management position in various sectors.

The curriculum is developed in close cooperation with the petroleum industry, and the education meets the qualification requirements stated in the oil industry recommended guidelines(OLF).

Dependingonthespecializationchosen,youmayqualifyfordrilling(Driller/DrillingManager),variouswellserviceactivities,andoperationspersonnelontheproductionplatform, or for work associated with subsea installations.

What is required to be admitted into Petroleum Technology College? Master Certificate and Technical College - Scaffolding

As the scaffolding specialization has developed and the number of skilled workersincreased, the need for continuing education has become more relevant.The industry, represented by SEF (Scaffolding Contractors Association), has long been animportant driving force for the establishment of further education in this field. A curriculum foramaster’scertificateandtechnicalschooleducationinthesubjectwasprepared.In2006,RogalandTrainingandEducationCenter(RKK)jointlywithBergelandHighSchoolreceivedapprovalfromNokuttostarttechnicaleducationinscaffolding.

Technical College is organized accordingly: one can choose either to have two yearseducation with a master’s certificate upon completion, or proceed to a third year ofeducation and become a technician. The education is intended for those who are currently supervisors/managersorthosewhowanttohavesuchpositionsinthefuture.
